Jnanadev says: I am always chanting The name of the Lord; and that is how I have realized my Self, the only real place of supreme inner peace.

Haripath - Sant Gnyaneshwar

Meaning

The evils of the present age (Kali kala) will not even glance at you, if you chant fervently and unceasingly the name of Hari .

The chanting of His name is the highest penance; all your sins will fly away.

Lord Shiva also chants the mantra, "Hari , Hari , Hari!" and whoever chants it will attain liberation.

Jnanadev says: I am always chanting The name of the Lord; and that is how I have realized my Self, the only real place of supreme inner peace.

It certainly seems a more effective method as a rule to expel our evil propensities by developing good ones rather than by seeking directly to crush the evil ones

When we recite the name of God, our mind is turned towards Him. And when the mind is turned to God, all taints of the soul gradually wear away.

John S. Mackenzie in his book "Manual of Ethics" says, "it certainly seems a more effective method as a rule to expel our evil propensities by developing good ones rather than by seeking directly to crush the evil ones.

God is for all. Each and everyone have the right to attain God. Bhagavan Nama japa is the universal way

Source: http://www.namadwaar.org/articles/sadgurulakshana.html

God is for all. Each and everyone have the right to attain God. 'Bhagavan Nama kirtan' which is the easiest way of attaining that God and performance of 'Bhagavan Nama' japa is universal way; all can say Bhagavan Nama; there is no bar for this; no one can stop it; all are children of God. Therefore, under the conditions prevailing today we can attain God following this great way. Only the one who advocates this 'marga' (of 'Nama sankirtan') to us is verily the highest Guru. Only He can show God to us. He is verily the Avatara Purusha.

Who is an Avatar? It is the objective of the Avatara 'purushas' to give 'upadesa' as befitting the Yuga, time and conditions. So, people should be given 'upadesa' as befitting today's circumstances. And that is the 'upadesa' of Nama kirtan. The path ('marga') of the day is 'Nama kirtan'. It is only to speak on this 'marga' that innumerable Mahans have been coming down in this Kali Yuga.

We have said Guru is the immanent and allpervading Truth. To remember Him as such, should be the first act of service.

Swami Papa Ramdas

What is the service the disciple should render to his Saviour so that by the fullness of his grace the disciple may attain salvation?

We have said Guru is the immanent and allpervading Truth.

To remember Him as such, should be the first act of service. This will lead to the dissolution of the ego-sense, making the disciple meek, gentle and compassionate. Pride leaves him and his vision is purified. Now a strange joy and peace possess him. He feels that he is in communion with the eternal Spirit. This experience of Divinity reflects through all his activities.

Realization is the result of the Master’s (Guru’s) grace, more than teachings, lectures, meditations, etc

Gems from Bhagavan - A Necklace Of Sayings By Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi

Realization is the result of the Master's (Guru's) grace, more than teachings, lectures, meditations, etc.

They are only secondary aids, whereas the former is the primary and essential cause.

What I experience now is the inner peace that I have been looking for

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Everyone desires peace. But it does not come by easily. Neither the rich nor the poor enjoys peace. The poor man on the platform envies the rich as he feels that wealth gives happiness. But the rich man envies the poor man on the platform thinking that he is happy, as he has no hassles attached to wealth! Each feels the other is happy while the fact is that none enjoys peace.

Krishna tells his friend Kuchela, "In this world both the rich and the poor suffer. None enjoys peace. Everyone suffers some sorrow or the other. Each, the rich and the poor, envies the other. Both yearn for shanti. How does one earn shanti? Krishna tells Kuchela, "Henceforth the world will refer to you to indicate poverty and me for the wealth as I am Dwarakadeesa. But both of us enjoy shanti. The reason for this is 'Gurohu anugrahenaiva puman puranah prasantaiye'. This is because our Guru Sandeepani blessed us when we prostrated before him at the time of taking leave of him after the completion of our studies. This is the reason for our enjoying peace.

When the disciple comes under the redeeming influence of the Guru, his entire life is transformed

Swami Papa Ramdas

Guru and God are one. Guru is the spiritual Master that guides the disciple and awakens him to the realization of the Divine within him. Guru is the immanent and transcendent Reality, He is the supreme Deity – the great Beloved of the disciple's heart.

When the disciple comes under the redeeming influence of the Guru, his entire life is transformed. He becomes an illumined vehicle in whom God's power and glory are revealed in their magnificence. To attain this blessed state, service of the Master is essential.

But for those who perform service in the Ãshram, for the sake of the Guru, the Guru's darshan is their only desire.  These people will definitely attain Moksha, whether or not their Guru attains it…..

We would feel that there is none as rich as we are because we have got such a Guru Ratnam

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Association of Sadhus is so great. If only one gets Satsangh (association of Sadhus), he attains everything in life. He becomes totally pure. It does not matter how one was earlier.

We go to the Holy Ganga for a holy dip. On the way we find lot of gutter water running in streams. We walk across them very carefully and reach the Ganga for the holy dip. After the holy bath we take the holy water in a pot to be given to our relatives and friends at home, after doing puja to the 'kalasa' carrying the holy water. But, what is surprising is that the streams of gutter that we saw while going to the Ganga, also finally mix only in the Ganga! It is verily this water that we have brought home in a pot as the holy water and performed puja to it!

Though it was gutter earlier it has become pure on mixing with the holy Ganga; in the same way, it does not matter what was our state earlier. Once we earn the association of Sadhus we also become pure. As soon as we see such Mahatmas we would feel that we are not sinners, for, if we were sinners would it be possible to get their darshan? Moreover any sin performed gets burnt away on the very darshan of such Mahans.

We would feel that there is none as rich as we are because we have got such a Guru Ratnam (Gem of a Guru)!

I learnt that all activities should be for the benefit of others

"Once, a Maharaja named Yadhu, addressed an Avadootha Sanyasi, "Hey! Brahman! You do not strive to satisfy the demands of your senses. How did you attain this subtle state of consciousness?

The Avadootha Sanyasi said, "Hey! Maharaj! Through my intellect I have gained several Gurus in this world. From them I have learnt that there is no essence in this world and thus have killed all desires. Let me cite these Gurus to you. They are,

1. THE EARTH

The vow of the Earth is forbearance. The earth is inhabited by innumerable things - Living and Non-living. The Earth bears all the atrocities committed on it by man and beast with much patience. I learnt forbearance from the Earth: that joy and sorrow are the consequences of our 'prarabhdha karma' and that all are bound by karma. Any obstacle in our path has to be borne calmly. This I learnt from the Earth. And from the mountain that is nothing but earth again, I learnt that all activities should be for the benefit of others. From the tree I learnt to live for others. It not only provides shade but also gives away the flowers, the fruits and its own bark.

It flashed to this human mind of mine that this was the reason He had undergone that scathing pain the other night.
