One can realize the devotion of Hanuman if one is intent on it. If one cannot reach that height it is enough if one makes a sincere attempt

Rama Nama - Experiences of Gandhiji  -by Manu

One should have Ramanama on one's lips till one's last breath but it should not be repeated parrot-like; it should spring from the heart as was the case with Hanuman. When Sitaji presented a pearl necklace to him he broke the pearls to see if the name of Rama was written in them. We need not care to find out whether the incident actually happened or not. We may not be able to make our bodies as strong as that of Hanuman but we can certainly make our souls as great. One can realize the devotion of Hanuman if one is intent on it. If one cannot reach that height it is enough if one makes a sincere attempt.  Has not Mother Gita taught us to make every effort and leave the result in the hands of God? We should try our very best to follow that teaching.

"Now you have understood what my attitude is towards the sickness of anybody, be it you, me or any one else." And that very day he wrote to an ailing sister, "There is only one panacea in the whole world and that is Ramanama. But His name could only prove effective if the rules pertaining to it are strictly adhered to. But who cares to do so?"

Strangely enough the above incident occurred on the 30th January 1947, exactly a year before his death.

That unshakable faith in Rama Nama remained with him till his last breath. I did not then imagine that on the same day a year later I should have the heart rending experience of hearing Rama, Ra….ma as the last audible words of the great departing soul. Mysterious indeed are the ways of the Lord!

The day that is gone never returns. Invaluable time is slipping away. Devote your days to the endeavour to draw close to the Lord of the Humble.

Anandamayi Ma

At one time you declared emphatically that if only you could secure suitable employment, you would most earnestly cultivate the spiritual side of life along with material comforts and pleasures. That you have kept your word as to worldly enjoyment is more than obvious; but in what dark cave, in what inaccessible abyss have you hidden away the tender plant of spiritual aspiration? When will you start making an effort to bring light into that dark cave?

Delay not: The day that is gone never returns. Invaluable time is slipping away. Devote your days to the endeavour to draw close to the Lord of the Humble.

When extreme old age supervenes, you will be too sluggish, too feeble to concentrate on God's name. How will you then make up for what you failed to do in good time?

Day and night the thought of the Beloved should possess his mind, on his tongue should always dwell His sweet Name and his actions should flow as an offering to Him.

Swami Papa Ramdas

It is clear that a burning aspiration can alone purify the soul and entitle it to the achievement of the highest spiritual experience.

Day and night the thought of the Beloved should possess his mind, on his tongue should always dwell His sweet Name and his actions should flow as an offering to Him.

Verily such an aspirant lives in an unbroken contact with God and ultimately becomes His very image filled with divine wisdom, power, love, joy and peace.

Those persons of pure deeds worship Me steadfast in vows

Bhagavad Gita 7:28

येषां त्वन्तगतं पापं जनानां पुण्यकर्मणाम् |

ते द्वन्द्वमोहनिर्मुक्ता भजन्ते मां दृढव्रताः ||

English Translation and commentry by Swami Sivananda

But those persons of virtuous deeds whose sins have come to an end, and who are freed from the delusion of the pairs of opposites, worship Me, steadfast in their vows.

By the performance of good deeds the heart is slowly purified; Sattva increases; Rajas and Tamas are gradually thinned out. The mind becomes serene and calm. The little self-arrogating personality slowly dies. You grow in spirituality. The divine flame becomes brighter and brighter. You become impersonal.

Sin: To forget one's identity with the Supreme Soul is the greatest sin. To see difference is sin. To take the body as the Self, to believe that this world is real is sin. Selfishness is sin. Egoism is sin. Ignorance is sin.

Steadfast in vows: The man steadfast in vows entertains a firm resolve: "I must realise the Self now; I will not budge an inch from my seat till I attain Self-realisation." He has the firm conviction that "Brahman is the only Reality. This world is unreal. It is like a mirage. I can attain immortality and eternal bliss if I realise the Self only. There is not an iota of happiness in the sensual objects." Therefore the Lord says, "Those persons of pure deeds worship Me steadfast in vows."

Similarly in Bhakti, only this same idea that the Lord is 'mine' can nurture and nourish bhakti towards the Lord.

Nama Article 23rd January 2011

Source: http://www.namadwaar.org/diary/?action=entry&id=1292967219

'Mine' is special!

When a child is beautiful or does something wonderful we enjoy and appreciate it. But appreciation of someone else's child can never come even close to the appreciation and adoration of a child that we consider 'mine'. Our adoration and appreciation is truly huge for even a small act by our own child! This is because of the strong idea we hold that the child is 'mine'.

Similarly in Bhakti, only this same idea that the Lord is 'mine' can nurture and nourish bhakti towards the Lord. Without this idea, the devotion still remains within banal limits.

I can love my friends, my parents and whoever I meet and admire. I can worship God, but how can I love LORD KRISHNA?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

You can love Him if you understand that Sri Krishna is pure love and love alone.

In order to realize that you have to continuously chant the Maha Mantra. Listen to the stories of Sri Krishna.

That is the best way to develop love for Him.

Divine Name will not only shield you from all harm, but also grant you the power of endurance and peace.

Swami Papa Ramdas

Depend upon it that the Lord's Name is all powerful. It will not only shield you from all harm, but also grant you the power of endurance and peace. To take refuge in the Name is to take refuge in God, because God and His Name are not different.

With the Name on the lips you can withstand all the storms of life, you can brave all the dangers, all the disappointments and all the losses that attend on life.

But, pity indeed it is that we who have come to the omnipotent Sri Vasudeva do not hold on to Him and lead a carefree life!

Source: http://namadwaar.org/ - Thought for the day

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

A person who works for a wealthy man is relaxed with the thought that the employer would take care of all his needs, be it his daughter's marriage or son's education. He enjoys a sense of security in the mere thought, "My master will take care of me!"

But, pity indeed it is that we who have come to the omnipotent Sri Vasudeva do not hold on to Him and lead a carefree life!

Hereafter, the Divine Name Rama is my only companion, nothing else.

Meerabai's Song

Hereafter, the Divine Name Rama is my only companion, nothing else.

I have renounced all my close relatives like father, mother and brother.

Now I keep the company of saints day and night. I do not care about any gossip this generates.

My heart rejoices at the sight of a saint but feels dejected with the worldly people.

I am in deep love with the Lord to whom I offer a necklace of pearls .... tears of Love and Joy.

Along the way, I come across many saints who bless me with a vision for Spirituality.

I bow to them with gratitude .... after all they are the ones through whom I connect to Lord Krishna.

I now conclude that surrendering to real saints (i.e. the Lord) is my destination. It is no longer necessary to wander from place to place for happiness .... all I need to do is to settle down at one place, relax and enjoy my life as directed by the Lord. Even though, I do not bother anyone, the materialistic world continues to place hurdles on me. However, nothing deters me anymore. I am more and more absorbed in my own Self. (Rana sent some poison so she could end her life and stop being an embarrassment to the family. With full knowledge that the drink was life-threatening, she consumed it without any hesitation. Surprisingly, nothing happened to her. This reinforced her conviction in what she was doing, i.e. surrendering to the Lord.)

The matter of my spiritual passion is no longer a secret. Everyone knows that I am devoted to serve my master, Lord Giridhari without any fear of consequences.

I no longer care of what others talk about me .... I am sure that my path leads to the Ultimate.
