The Name is the link between the devotee and God.

Nama Article 26th November 2015

Swami Papa Ramdas

All Sadhana is for keeping remembrance of God unbroken. Remembrance is Darshan. The easiest way is to take the Name of God constantly. The Name is the link between the devotee and God. It brings the devotee face to face with Him and enables him to realize oneness with Him. Namasmaran is capable of granting the universal vision by which one sees everything as God. When you take the Name, you are taking the Name of the Lord who dwells in your own heart.

Having compassion of the Lord as the foundation, the one which has no rules, the one which can eradicate the force of Kali, Namakirtanam is the only resort.

Chanting the Name of the Lord is the easiest and surest path as there is no scope for any negative effects

Whether your interest be in Yoga, Meditation or Vedanta, chanting Mahamantra for some time will purify your mind and enable you to proceed in your own path comfortably

Incapability is the qualification! You should realize that you are incapable (of treading any spiritual path). AND, THAT IS THE ONLY QUALIFICATION REQUIRED.

The only solution is 'TO SING THE NAME OF GOVINDA'.......

When there is a heavy rain, every one catches the viral fever. No one is spared. Isn't it?. In the same way, this is Kali Yuga…………

Why is life so complicated? Why is there so much confusion in life? Can't it be all simple? - Simplest and the most straightforward path FOR ALL

On this earth you chant My Divine Name incessantly and make others also do the same thing. Sri Sri Anna

Hence on daily basis we can try whether we can think only about God 's name before we go for a sleep – Mahaperiyava

All I know is Ram Nam - Yogiramsuratkumar

Divine Names' are not mere names - Bhagavan Nama Bodhendral

Essence of Gita - मामेकं शरणं व्रज - The easiest way to surrender is to chant the Mahamantra. Continuously chant the Mahamantra and eventually, you will attain the state of surrender. - Bhagavad Gita – Bhagavad Gita

Of all religious practices, japa (repetition of divine name) is said to be the supreme practice - Adi Shankara

The ONLY religion for this age - The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna

The oral repetition of the Name leads one to mental repetition which finally resolves itself into the eternal vibration. The mind or the mouth cannot act without the Self - Sri Ramana Maharishi

Though I preach about different paths, the path I follow is that of Bhakti Marga i.e chanting of Lord's name.

Jnanadev says: Chant Hari's name; The Lord will then become your slave,

With those who have no mantra, even if they have a strong habit of meditation or concentration, something around them remains hazy and vague - Mother (Sri Aurobindo Ashram)

Wherever His name is spoken, that very place is holy. How much more so is the man who speaks His name, - Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda

Vibrations resulting from devotional singing lead to the contact of the Cosmic Vibration or the Word. - Paramahansa Yogananda

The seed in the form of a mantra will be made to sprout when provided with the necessary nourishment in the form of satsang - Anandamayi Ma

O, great is the Power of the Word,

But few there be that know it. - Guru Nanak

To take Sri Krishna's name is the one supreme duty and aim of life - Pagal Harnath

I will never forget the sacred name of our Lord - Saint Ramalinga Vallalar

People despise this Kali Yuga. This is a mistake for in Kali Yuga you can attain God-realisation easily, you do not have to do hard tapas (austerities) – Swami Sivananda

Keep saying Govinda! Govinda! Only the Name of the Lord will save you and not this grammar

Nama Article 20th November 2015

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji on 17th November, 2002

Adi Sankara sings, 'Bhaja Govindam Bhaja Govindam Bhaja Govindam, moodamate!' - Sing/Chant 'Govinda', Oh! foolish mind!

Once Sankara found an old man on the banks of the Ganges trying to learn some sutras in grammar in Sanskrit. Sankara wondered, 'He appears to be around ninety years old. Death can strike him any moment. Why is he trying to learn grammar at this juncture of his life? Of what use is this to him? What is he going to attain through this?' and questioned him about it. The old man explained, "The king has announced a gift of a golden shawl to one who can recite this. I am learning this so that I can get the golden shawl."

Sankara thought, "Should he not sing the praises of Tirumãl (Lord Vishnu) and attain a birthless state? When the 'prãna' (life force) leaves his body will this grammar save him? Is it this grammar that will save him at the time of his death?"

A man may be holding a high office. A man may be very wealthy. A man may be highly learned. But, when he dies none would speak of him as 'the collector' if he had held that high office but pointing to his body only refer to it as 'the dead body'. The respect that he had received when holding the high office holds no more. He is referred to merely as 'the dead body'.

It was at this time that Sankara wrote the lyric,

'Bhaja govindam bhaja govindam

Bhaja govindam moodamate!

Samprãpte sannihite kale

Nahi nahi rakshati dukrn karane!'

Sankara pointed out to him that at that age when death was so close at hand it was only the Lord's Name that would support him and not some Sanskrit grammar and advised him to take up the chanting of the Lord's Name. 'Keep saying Govinda! Govinda! Only the Name of the Lord will save you and not this grammar; 'nahi nahi rakshati dukrn karanae' - This grammar will not save you.'

'Bhaja Govindam! Bhaja Govindam! Bhaja Govindam moodamate!' -- 'Oh! Fool! Why do you struggle with the study of the Shãstrãs? Chant the Name of Govinda!' said Sankara.

The sufferings, as per our scriptures, are three-fold – Due to mind / body, due to other embodied beings, due to natural calamities.

One thing can be said for certain. God is perfect. An imperfection cannot come from the perfect.

Likewise, to pacify God, all that is needed of us is Maha Mantra Kirtan

Thus the calamities of the world are seen as a means for self-improvement.

Glory unto thee….Oh! Mind! I salute thy unmatched courage!

One thing can be said for certain. God is perfect. An imperfection cannot come from the perfect.

Everything in our life is predetermined. All we have to do is to turn and fix our mind on Him!

Repetition of His holy name gives strength and concentration to prayer.

Nama Article 19th November 2015

EPISTLES OF SWAMI RAMDAS

When Hanuman was dispirited and thought it was not in his power to take the leap to Lanka, a comrade awakened him to the sense of his prowess, which he had forgotten; and he could accomplish the apparently impossible task. So also, the immortal bliss and peace which is within us becomes revealed, when our heart is illumined by the light of knowledge. Saints help us to attain this. They constantly din into our ears what we really are. You are not a despicable worm, sinful and wretched. The Lord of the worlds has His throne in your heart — you are not only in tune with Him eternally but you are His very expression and form.

The object of prayer is to intensify our desire to attain God. When the longing has reached the necessary pitch, realisation comes. Repetition of His holy name gives strength and concentration to prayer. The bowman hits the mark when his mind is perfectly concentrated on his act - when the thought of the mark alone rules the mind.

Like a train runs on the track, our life should run on the strength of Mahamantra kirtan.

When our mind catches hold of a God or a Năma (Name of the Lord), the mental strength is protected without being wasted.

If we think of God and pray to Him for His guidance and His grace, we shall derive strength to battle against these temptations and conquer our weaknesses

Surdas says that when a man has exhausted all his resources and invokes the Name of God, His grace descends upon him.

Only through spiritual strength does one attain to purity, and this is possible only through Nama Sankirtan

The power of Nama gives strength to innumerable people

Bhagavatham, The Divine Fruit - Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Sri Suka speaks of the reason for the birth of the Name Narayana. The Cosmic person who came out breaking open the universal shell created the pure water known as Garbhodakam with the desire for a place for Himself to stay. He stayed in this water for a full thousand years. Water is called 'Nara' meaning 'that which is born of Nara or the Lord. As the Lord lay on 'Nara' He earned the Name Narayana. Material cause, Karma, Time, Nature and Jiva have the power to act only due to the Will of this Lord. When the Lord Wills otherwise they become powerless.

One should meditate upon Lord Narayana by Chanting His Divine Names during baths and other acts; for it is a purificatory penance for all bad actions

In spite of having the Divine Name 'Narayana', which can free people from all sins, and the mouth to Chant the Divine Name, people still fall in the hell by not chanting it! What a wonder!!!

He who meditates on the immutable Lord Narayana, even for moment, attains salvation. How easy should be, then, for those who are wholly devoted to Him.

I have discovered a word which gives good for ever. It is the divine name Narayana.

Essence of the Vedas and all the holy scriptures is "Repeat the name of Narayana." Without the remembrance of Hari, all other practices, such as rituals and austerities, are only futile exertions.

Remember the Lord always and be ever conscious of the fact that every moment is governed by the will and wish of Sri Krishna

He is so generous that He gives away His own self to those who contemplate on His lotus-feet. Also bestows wealth and objects of worldly enjoyment, which are after all not very desirable things

"To remain how God wills" – being in this state is Bhagavatha Dharmam.

You should not only accept from the bottom of your heart the situation that the Lord keeps you in but also be grateful to Him for that because it is verily the Lord's blessing!

Yogirămsuratkumăr used to say, 'If there is faith then there is no fate.'

If one does not chant the divine Name of the Lord, the Lord will not interfere with his life. If he does chant the Name of God continuously, the Lord makes his life favorable to him.

Likewise, God takes hold of his devotee and removes all the hurdles in his/her way.

Everything in our life is predetermined. All we have to do is to turn and fix our mind on Him!

Bhaktas are those who have unflinching love for God - spend their time in the thought of God, singing His praises/Names

Nama Article 13th November 2015

Source: Madhuramurali November 2015

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji answers to questions from devotees

Question: Who are Siddhas, Muktas and Bhaktas?

Bhaktas are those who have unflinching love for God with Form. Merely through their love for God they attain to the state of Samadhi and remaining in the state of Jnana which is beyond pairs of opposites like heat-cold, honour-dishonour they spend their time in the thought of God, singing His praises/Names and listening /reading /narrating His stories. Their devotion seeks no fulfillment of desires and removal of sorrows : it seeks not even Liberation. Being in the state of Jnana they remain devoted only due to their love for God. Lord Krishna, in Bhagavad Gita, has given the assurance that He will take care of the needs of such devotees! Those like Namdev, Tukaram are great Bhaktas.
