To have the opportunity to serve a Mahatma in some way is indeed the rarest of the rarest.

It is Vaikunta Ekadasi today; it is a great 'punya kãla' (auspicious day)

In Srimad Bhagavatham Videha Maharaja Nimi says,

दुर्लभो मानुषो देहो देहिनां क्षणभङ्गुरः ।

तत्रापि दुर्लभं मन्ये वैकुण्ठप्रियदर्शनम् ॥

(Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 11 Chapter 2 Verse 29)

Transliteration

durlabho manusho deho dehinam kshana-bhangurah

tatrapi durlabham manye vaikuntha-priya-darsanam

Meaning

The human body is a rare boon to embodied souls and that too is very transient (momentary, short-lived, temporary). In the human life too the rarest is to get the darshan of someone who is a Jeevan Muktha (Realized Soul) and who is a devotee of Lord Krishna. One should be immensely blessed to have the opportunity to serve a Mahatma in some way and it is indeed the rarest of the rarest.

Sri Abhinava Vidhyateertha Swami has advised that one need not demand this and that of their Guru. His 'kataksha' (sight) would suffice. The mere thought in Him, 'let this man turn good,' would do: and, that would bring about all round welfare."

Sri Abhinava Vidhyateertha Swami has said, "Our Guru is omnipotent; highly compassionate. He is one who bestows all that we lack; protects what we possess. He is omnipresent, filling everything within and without. Therefore, while standing in His divine presence let only the thought, 'Thou art verily the Atma within me' arise in us."

Bhagawan Yogiramsuratkumar says

Chanting the Name is prayer;

There is no need to pray separately

Chant Maha mantra now - The Divine Name does all the purification instead of 'purification by punishment'

Nama Article 24th December 2009

Source: http://www.namadwaar.org/answers/questions.html

Swamiji, please explain why karma is carried from one birth to another? Why if someone does a wrong thing he is not been punished immediately? For any suffering all say it is due to past karma. Is it correct?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

If God punishes immediately, you would say why can't he give him time and chance to correct what he has done!

It is due to infinite patience and compassion of the Lord that he gives us chance after chance to attain his feet.

So if you turn to Him and chant Maha mantra now, 'Nama' (The Divine Name) does all the purification instead of 'purification by punishment'.

I believe God. Why, then, is it necessary to recite His name?

Mahathma Gandhi

Source: Harijan, 5-5-1946

There are many who, whether from mental laziness or from having fallen into a bad habit, believe that God is and will help us unasked.

Why, then, is it necessary to recite His name?

It is true that if God is, He is irrespective of our belief.

But realization of God is infinitely more than mere belief. That can come only by constant practice. This is true of all science. How much more true of the science of all sciences!

Contemplate Krishna’s name every moment; your mind will become steady

Source: Pagal Harnath letters

The main things for attaining mental balance are

  1. To think always that one has to die
  2. To be satisfied with whatever gain that comes of itself
  3. To have an unshakable faith that everything that is to happen in this world is fore-ordained
  4. To avoid company
  5. To sing the Lord's praises loudly alone and at a lonely spot when the mind is very much disturbed
  6. To be convinced in body, mind and soul that there is one, who is above all, sees all and directs all, and to put trust in Him.

Contemplate Krishna's name every moment; your mind will become steady.

Chanting the Mahamantra increases the ‘Aatma Balam’

Nama Article 21st December 2009

Source: http://www.namadwaar.org/answers/questions.html

How to develop the 'Atma Balam' in oneself? What is the difference between Atma balam and Manobalam? Are they same?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

If you maintain your body healthy, that is strengthening the body ('Sarira Balam')

If you keep the 'Prana' (breath) under control, then that is strengthening the breath('Prana Balam')

If you control the mind and tune it in the proper direction, then that is strengthening the intellect.

If you keep your mind thoughtless and positive, and keep it one-pointed, that is strengthening the mind ('Mano Balam')

By merely having 'Mano Balam', it is possible to perform superhuman tasks like bending an iron rod, or extracting the juice from a fruit without touching it and so on. But these are occult practices.

The soul (aatma) is beyond the mind (manas). The power of the true Jnanis is Atma Balam, and that is the real strength.

Chanting the Mahamantra increases the 'Aatma Balam'.

Who can enjoy the pleasant spectacle of Maya’s wanderings?

Source: Pagal Harnath letters

Imagine the pleasure of watching the movement of wild animals from the top of a high-rise building in a thick jungle. While secure in such a place, one is free from fear of attack from the wild beasts and may even harass them.

Similarly those who have taken refuge in Krishna's feet amidst the worldly jungle where Maya prowls, are delighted by the pleasant spectacle of Maya's wanderings. They can sometime lead Maya in to pitfalls and enjoy the fun.

Why is life so complicated? Why is there so much confusion in life? Can’t it be all simple? - Simplest and the most straightforward path FOR ALL

I am heavily disturbed by the sufferings in life. Vedanta says the world is a dream. Some say that God created everything and it is He who gave us all the troubles and pleasures. Others say that we are responsible for our own doings and should not blame God. Why is life so complicated? Why is there so much confusion in life? Can't it be all simple?

Can't I see God as a good and open mind? Can't I treat him as my best friend, philosopher and guide? Can I not look unto him for motherly affection?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

"Since time immemorial, there are different schools of thoughts:

'Lokayatham' is a school of thought which says that one does not need to bother about what is not seen and experienced, and enjoy the world as long as you are in it. It neither accepts nor disputes God.

'Nasthikam' is a school of thought that does not accept God.

'Iyarkaivaadam' is an argument which claims that the Nature is the reason for all creation. That is, there is no Creator or God, and that everything evolved of its own.

'Aasthikam' is the school that believes in the existence of the supreme power – the Creator. Even after knowing and accepting Lord, there are two types of people, one, those who seek Lord by following the prescribed paths shown in scriptures and the second, those who do not yearn to attain Lord, but lead a worldly life and pray to Lord for material gains alone.

Even if millions of people shout aloud and proclaim the existence of a non-existent thing, it will not come in to existence. Similarly even if millions of people join hands and deny a thing which does exist it will not cease to exist. Like wise even with thousand philosophies if any one denies Lord it is not the loss for Lord but for the person who denies it

One need not accept anything blindly but should accept the right path after questioning and obtaining suitable answers. But questioning and finding the answers alone will not lead to Lord. At a particular stage, one should stop questioning and travel in the direction shown by answers obtained.

For example reading the sign board again and again and questioning the way again and again one will never reach the destination. In fact that doesn't take us even an inch forward. One has to travel in the direction shown to them to reach the destination.

Doing such rational enquiry and following the direction shown by the scriptures, one can conclude that the end is to awaken the Divinity within oneself – the infinite bliss. To awaken the Divinity and experience the infinite bliss, there are different paths. But one has to identify the path suitable to them and work in the direction. As you say that you want a simple way out, you should put your efforts in the right direction.

The right direction, which is tried and tested, is Chanting the Divine Name – a path shown by our scriptures which can be followed by one and all in the present age and living conditions. God's Name and God are one and the same according to our scriptures and as experienced, taught and propagated by various Mahatmas. Chanting the Name of the Lord is the easiest and surest path as there is no scope for any negative effects. Faith, practice of Nama Kirtan (Chanting the Name of Lord) and surrender to the Lord is the easiest way for liberation

This is the simplest and the most straightforward path, best suited for this age, without you having to renounce or forsake anything and still experience exactly the same supreme state of Liberation. As you proceed in this path, you can feel your love and devotion for God increasing day by day and you can realize Him just like you wanted to – the best friend, philosopher and guide.

All the souls in this world are born to attain liberation. Even if we do not work for it now and attain it today, we definitely HAVE TO attain the same some day. If it so, why not now? "

The seed in the form of a mantra will be made to sprout when provided with the necessary nourishment in the form of satsang

Anandamayi Ma

The Aksara (syllable or series of syllables) by which the mind becomes liberated is called mantra. The Aksara is cinmayi (permeated, as it were, by consciousness); it is the sabdaBrahman; it is called the Nama Brahman.

Feel convinced that He will be found in the Name. Have firm faith that the seed that has been buried in your consciousness will without fail grow into a tree. Just as after sowing a seed, it has to be watered and manured, similarly the seed in the form of a mantra will be made to sprout when provided with the necessary nourishment in the form of satsang. As you desire God, be it in a particular form or with out form, so will you find Him.

Krishna is an embodiment of divine love and nothing but pure love and love alone.

Often we see that there is no compatibility between the husband and wife in a family. Why is it so? How can a marriage be made successful?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

In any relationship, you give, before you expect others to give you. Similarly, when it comes to love, you show your love before you expect to be loved.

As long as marriage is considered as a divine bonding, it is blissful and the life is charming. As soon as we think that of marriage as a mere social binding governed by law, it loses it charm and becomes dry and listless.

The best way to ensure that the marriage continues to be a divine bonding for ever, is to pray to the Supreme Lord, Sri Krishna. He is an embodiment of divine love and nothing but pure love and love alone. He will shape your life in a way that would bring mutual understanding and love in your family life.

The easiest way to pray to him is to chant the Maha Mantra. Continue to chant the Maha Mantra with unflinching faith and devotion.

You should understand that everything you do in order to realize God is helpful. Nothing at all is wasted

Anandamayi Ma

No attempt is futile; everything serves a purpose. Suppose you are traveling somewhere by railway. In order to catch the train you will first go by boat from your village to Dacca, then descend from the boat with the help of a stick and get into a horse carriage that will take you to the station.

Although your aim is a journey by train, you cannot say that the boat, stick, horse carriage and so forth are of no use. Similarly, you should understand that everything you do in order to realize God is helpful. Nothing at all is wasted.

By whatever Name you may invoke Him, your effort will be crowned with success. The main thing is to cling to the Name with constancy.
