The easiest way to attain the Grace of Bhagavan is to chant his Nãma

Nama Article 30th August 2009

Source: http://www.namadwaar.org/answers/questions.html

How do we know that Bhagavan's grace is there or not? Do we get any signs? If all our effort will become useless since Bhagavan's grace is missing, what is the use in putting in the effort?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

In order to achieve worldly comforts as well as to attain God, both His Grace and your efforts are required.  A farmer who puts in his best efforts by ploughing the field, sowing seeds and manuring, will still not able to do a good harvest, if it does not rain at the right time.  Thorough inundation by means of rains on an unploughed arid land will do no good either.  A combination of  proper efforts (by means of ploughing, sowing and manuring) and  grace (by means of rains at the appropriate rime), makes one successful.

Now how do we know that we get the Lord's grace?

When we say that we need God's grace irrespective of the efforts we put in to attain the Lord, this is what is meant:

As long as you feel that you are putting in efforts and you are responsible for your Sadhanas, you will not be able to attain Him.  The moment, you start to feel that everything is happening by the Lord's grace; it is He who instigates and empowers you to perform Sadhanas, then you can be pretty sure that your efforts are not in vain.

That feeling is verily the indication that you are a recipient of the Lord's grace.

The easiest way to attain the Grace of Bhagavan is to chant his Nãma

If he keeps chanting the Divine Name with the same enthusiasm, he begins to view this whole Universe as the very form of God.

Nama Article 29th August 2009

Swami Papa Ramdas

When one chants the Divine Name sincerely with faith and concentration, his face begins to shine with an extraordinary lustre. His mind earns discernment ('viveka') and the heart fills with love. This occurs, as 'sattva guna' (the quality of goodness) rises up in the Sãdhak's mind.

If he keeps chanting the Divine Name with the same enthusiasm, he begins to view this whole Universe as the very form of God. He who has become one with God sees only God's darshan everywhere.

In reality, "Nãma" (the Divine Name) is verily God.

If everything happens as per karma, and fate cannot be defeated, then why should convince people about Bhakti?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

Can you tell me if Bhakti is also in your fate or not? Convincing people about Bhakti is in your fate, asking this question is in your fate, and getting this answer from me is also in your fate!

Is it possible to overcome fate?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

With the divine grace and with our effort, we can overcome fate.

If there is faith, then there is no fate.

To take Sri Krishna’s name is the one supreme duty and aim of life.

Nama Article 25th August 2009

The power of 'name' is such that it cures one and all of our worldly troubles, not to speak of bodily ailments. Harbor no thoughts in your mind, go on taking the 'name', the whole world will be yours; and you, his. You will remain immersed in everlasting joy, not even a shadow of misfortune will mar that joy.

All sorts of apprehensions will fly from you in terror, and for ever you will enjoy absolute peace. Hence, to take Sri Krishna's name is the one supreme duty and aim of life.

By constantly chanting the divine Mahamantra and surrendering to the feet of Bhagavan, one can attain moksha by his grace. In this state, individual mind would be one with the Universal mind of the Lord.

Surrender to God means not resisting anything. But where should our decisions or actions stop so that that there is neither inaction nor resistance?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

Let us imagine that someone is in the kitchen. You ask him what he is upto. 'I'm making tea' comes the reply. You go the kitchen yourselves and find that there is no tea yet! There was only water boiling in the stove. Now was his statement about preparing tea true?

Yes and no. Isn't it?

Likewise, each and every minute, we should try to surrender to Krishna. We should go on doing it. To start with, we will have a very poor faith ('Manda Vishvasa'). Then the faith grows with time, to culminate in what is called as a state of total faith ('Poorna Vishvasa'). It is then that you will feel that it is God is directly acting through you and so far, He was doing so through your ego.

No wonder, Lord Krishna attracts one and all.

Nama Article 14th August 2009

What makes the incarnation of Lord Krishna more special than the other incarnations of Lord Vishnu?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

When we see a beautiful sight, we are naturally attracted towards it.

When we hear a beautiful music, we are attracted towards it.

When we watch a beautiful dance, we are attracted towards it.

When we see some enticing mannerisms or actions, we are attracted towards it.

When we see a little child doing mischief, we are attracted towards it.

When we hear a good orator speaking, we are attracted towards him

When one speaks in a scholarly manner, we are attracted towards him.

When one speaks in a sweet manner, we are attracted towards him.

When one talks about high philosophy, we are attracted towards it.

When one does a lot of good for us, we are attracted towards him

When one behaves gently with us, we are attracted towards him.

We can keep listing such qualities almost endlessly. There are plenty of such instances in Krishna Avatar.

No wonder, Lord Krishna attracts one and all.

If you want to remain happy for ever, do not forget the most delightful Name of Sri Krishna; remain absorbed day and night in that Name and you will see what joy it brings you.

Do not allow thoughts of sanctity or uncleanness enter your mind when taking Krishna's Name. As no impurity can approach fire, mere contact with which purifies every object, ? So no impurity can ever approach Krishna's Name. Repetition of the Name will generate Pure Love; and through Pure Love, Hari, the object of Pure Love, can be had.

Festivals like Gokulashtami are also meant to overcome idleness, bring in cheerfulness and promote social interaction.

Nama Article 12th August 2009

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Though festivals like Sri Ramanavami, Vinayaka Chathurthi, Gokulashtami, Navarathri, etc. are basically religious in nature, they are also meant to overcome idleness, bring in cheerfulness and promote social interaction. Our religious concepts have sound logic as basis.

Our Scriptures speak of great benefit arising out of Chanting the Divine Names on these auspicious occasions.

Tomorrow is Sri Krishna Jayanthi (Gokulashtami) – Lets celebrate by Chanting the Divine Names.

By being a householder, leading a righteous life and chanting the Mahamantra, one can enjoy this life as well as in the life beyond!

Nama Article 2nd August 2009

How to strike a balance between living in the spiritual world and the "worldly" world till your duties in the "worldly" world are not done?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

The life of a householder is the most blessed one.

Even if one is wealthy and leads a comfortable life, if he fails to chant the Mahamantra, he is certain to suffer in the life after death! If a Sanyasi follows the rigorous austerities laid down for him, he suffers in this birth but is happy in the life beyond.

By being a householder, leading a righteous life and chanting the Mahamantra, one can enjoy this life as well as in the life beyond!

Is it not a blessing to be a householder?

So chant the Mahamantra. Chant it with faith, love and patience. Then you will see for yourself that the heaven is at your feet, even while doing your worldly duties.
