It is not enough if you have faith in God but you should have faith in yourself; the faith that you would see God

Nama Article 27th August 2012

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Vivekănanda advises you to give up the Guru, Smriti, Shăstras, Itihăsa-purănas that would bring down your self-confidence. This is because one cannot do anything without self-confidence. It is not enough if you have faith in God but you should have faith in yourself; the faith that you would see God. There is an incident in the life of Jesus Christ to illustrate this.

Christ is walking in the midst of a huge crowd. A blind beggar named Bartimaeus calls out to Jesus. Christ turns around and walks up to the man and asks, "Did you call me?"

The blind man says, 'Yes, Jesus!'

Christ asks him, "What do you want?"

The beggar says, "I am blind since birth. I want to see the entire creation of God. I want to see this beautiful world."

Christ asks, "Do you want to see this world? Well! See it" and touches the blind man's eyes with His fingers. Immediately the blind man is blessed with sight. He sees the world and sheds tears. Christ asks him, "Why do you weep?"

The blessed man, in a choked tone, says, "Jesus! You have blessed me with sight. I am now able to see the entire world."

Christ explains, "Do you think that Jesus has given you sight? You hold the faith. Faith is the greatest wealth and you have it!"

Yogirămsuratkumăr used to say, 'If there is faith then there is no fate.'

Faith is even greater than God.......Unshakable faith and patience are the two coins that one should offer to Guru as offering

Once you acquire faith, your work is done. There is nothing higher than faith

If we call out His Name with complete faith, Krishna will certainly appear before us.

Power of Faith! Story of a Hunter, who ceaselessly with a single pointed focus, with all other thoughts removed from mind, had the vision of Lord.

Faith is more powerful than knowledge

When a trouble befalls you, it is only to test your faith. Win over it by your faith on God. He will never let you down.

Vibhishana who held faith He was Rama! Ravana who did not He was Yama!

The way – Faith

the man without faith (is ruined and) comes back to this transmigratory cycle again and again" ...Bhagavad Gita

Our faith in the living God is to be measured by the extent of freedom from anxiety of any kind whatsoever.

What is prayer?

Believe in simple prayers

Conversing with God in a personal manner is prayer in itself. Thanking God for all the good things He has given you is prayer in itself. Singing His Divine Name is prayer in itself.

The man of prayer will be at peace with himself, and with the whole world

Chanting lips make many hands work

Prayer gives us a pure heart and a pure heart can do much

Repeating a demand or prayer over and over again, mentally or orally, and with deepening attention and devotion, spiritualizes the prayer

What is the power of pracitising prayers, how it can transform a person and why a devotee is dear to Lord Krishna ?

You are never so poor that you cannot do anything for others

By God's grace and power everything is possible, if our prayers are really sincere.

Chant His Names constantly with an earnest prayer

Nama Article 10th August 2012

What is the way to attain God or see Him?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

God is right within us. He is always available within us and waiting patiently for us to turn towards Him within. Easiest way is to surrender to him and chant His Names constantly with an earnest prayer to have His 'vision'.

For a Krishna devotee, life is blissful!

Janmashtami Message from Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

No wonder, Lord Krishna attracts one and all

Festivals like Gokulashtami are also meant to overcome idleness, bring in cheerfulness and promote social interaction

The purpose of Incarnation of Sri Krishna is to give to the world - His Name, His attractive Form and His various leelas

Born in a 'Karagraha' (prison), Sri Krishna entered the 'Garbagraha' (the sanctum) just for the sake of 'Anugraha' (gracing us)

The Nama is verily the propeller of the ship. The captain of this ship is none other than Sri Krishna Himself!

Sri Krishna says; I protect those who have surrendered unto me and look up to me for their protection

For all questions he had only one reply, "One should perform Krishna Namakirtan"

When you chant do not bother whether your mind wavers or not. Nama will take care of that.....proceed doubtlessly with faith in the words of the Guru

Swamiji, You talk only of Bhakti towards Krishna. Why?

Chant the Mahamantra Nama kirtan :

Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

Feeling blessed, “How fortunate am I to have been blessed with this Nama!” one should drown Bhagavan in ‘premai’ - love

Nama Article 8th August 2012

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

You may count the beads in the japa mala innumerable times or do intense meditation. Bhagavan is not attracted by it. Bhagavan 'yearns' only for love. Only love from the 'jivas' stimulates and attracts Bhagavãn.

Perform Nama Sankirtan with 'premai'. When you utter the name of the one whom you love deeply, don't you do it with deep feeling and earnestness? Call out to Bhagavan in the same way. Do not perform Nama Sankirtan as if it is a burden laid on you but utter it elatedly as you would pet your dear one ('konji konji').

Feeling blessed, "How fortunate am I to have been blessed with this Nama!" one should drown Bhagavan in 'premai' - love. ('Premaiyil tocchu tocchu Nãma Sankirtan pannanum!)

Only such Nama Sankirtan will bring in results. Keep Bhagavan soaked in love! ('Premai dahikanum' - One should be set ablaze with Love for God!). And this can be experienced only in a true Satsang.

Only in the company of Sadhus is 'premai' experienced in one's heart.

'Similarly, my friend,' the master says, 'you can sit like that forever, but you'll never be meditating or understanding truth.'

The intention of continued chanting of the Divine names is to take one to the state of total selfless, unconditional LOVE

I can worship God, but how can I love LORD KRISHNA? You can love Him if you understand that Sri Krishna is pure love and love alone.

That love, can sprout only by his grace. His grace descends when we chant the Mahamantra.

Mechanical chanting is the only starting point we can attempt. It matures to love by grace.

THE JNAANA (KNOWLEDGE) BORN OUT OF GRACE, THE VIDWAT (LEARNING) BORN OF THIS GRACE, WEALTH RECEIVED FROM SUCH A GRACE IS EVERLASTING AND SAFE (HARMLESS).

God gives whatever is required (by His devotee), removes whatever is not needed, leads the devotee in the path suited to him/her; Since Bhagavãn takes utmost interest in the devotee's needs the latter will

not earn/attain any 'siddhi'

What is there in this world that devotion to the Lord cannot do?

By repeatedly chanting the Divine Name of Lord Hari, one attains all siddhis (powers). When Lord, the Consort of Goddess Shridevi, and the Lord of the world, is pleased, what remains an impossibility on this earth?

Repetition of Name will create Love. Hari will be yours when you attain Love

Chant the Mahamantra Nama kirtan :

Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare

Nama Article 7th August 2012

Source: Vision

Question: Sometimes in life we do not know what to do when we feel we are responsible for the mistakes some make on the spiritual path. We could have prevented them, but they do not listen to us. In such cases is it better to let them have the negative experiences with life than our interfering?

Swami Papa Ramdas

When Ramdas was once climbing up the Himalayas, a girl was coming down a slope on her return journey. She ran so fast that she lost control over herself and went near the precipice and was about to topple down the precipice and be killed. Ramdas was there at that critical time, but he could not do anything to help her. Ramdas prayed to God : "O God, save the girl!" She was saved! That is all we can do. This experience is given in his book "IN QUEST OF GOD". By God's grace and power everything is possible, if our prayers are really sincere.

We see daily so many are falling into temptations and so many are led into evil ways of life. What can we do? Can we persuade them not to do such things? Will they pay heed to our advice? Generally they don't. So the only thing we can do is to purify our heart and send waves of earnest love and goodwill to them. Before we can do good to others by our goodwill, let us first pray for ourselves and purify our heart and then become vehicles in the hands of God for His power to work through us for the uplift of others. So far as physical help is concerned, we cannot sometimes do much to prevent another's fall, but spiritual help is still more difficult to render. Spiritual help is the best help.

But in the name of spirituality and religion so many evils are done. This is really deplorable. If we are truly on the path that leads us to God, we must become morally and spiritually pure. On the other hand, we get into so many entanglements and say that we do so in the name of spirituality or religion. Spirituality and religion do not admit of our leading an erratic and immoral life. We must grow from purity to purity until we are fully illumined with the light, love and peace of God. This is the ultimate realisation, and we must have this alone in view and work up to the attainment of that supreme goal. All else is only talk and of no avail. We may call ourselves as belonging to this religion or that, this group or that, and as disciples of this person or that. But this will not do. What really counts is spiritual advancement based upon our inner purity and real transformation within us. Our outer life must bear out the fact of our highest spiritual experience. Our outer life must wear itself out in the service of God. This is the test by which we can know where we stand — not by what we call ourselves, but by what we really are.
