Yes, faith. What tremendous faith Krishnakishore had! He used to say: 'I have spoken the name of God once. That is enough. How can I remain a sinner?

Nama Article 29th September 2012

Source: The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna

M: "You once said that one who constantly talks of his sin really becomes a sinner; he cannot extricate himself from sin. But if a man has firm faith that he is the son of God, then he makes rapid strides in spiritual life."

MASTER: "Yes, faith. What tremendous faith Krishnakishore had! He used to say: 'I have spoken the name of God once. That is enough. How can I remain a sinner? I have become pure and stainless.' One day Haladhari said: 'Even Ajamila had to perform austerities to gratify God. Can one receive the grace of God without austerities? What will one gain by speaking the name of Narayana only once?' At these remarks Krishnakishore's anger knew no bounds. The next time he came to this garden to pick flowers he wouldn't even look at Haladhari.

"Haladhari's father was a great devotee. At bathing-time he would stand waist-deep in the water and meditate on God, uttering the sacred mantra; then the tears would flow from his eyes.

Krishnakishore's faith in God

"One day a holy man came to the bathing-place on the Ganges at Ariadaha. We talked about seeing him. Haladhari said, 'What shall we gain by seeing the body of a man, a mere cage made of the five elements?' Krishnakishore heard about it and said: 'What? Did Haladhari ask what would be gained by visiting a holy man? By repeating the name of Krishna or Rama a man transforms his physical body into a spiritual body. To such a man everything is the embodiment of Spirit. To him Krishna is the embodiment of Spirit, and His sacred Abode is the embodiment of Spirit.' He also said, 'A man who utters the name of Krishna or Rama even once reaps the result of a hundred sandhyas.'

"One of his sons chanted the name of Rama on his death-bed. Krishnakishore said, 'He has nothing to worry about; he has chanted the name of Rama.' But now and then he wept. After all, it was the death of his own son. "Nothing whatsoever is achieved by the performance of worship, japa, and devotions, without faith. Isn't that so?"

M: "Yes, sir. That is true."

Those who chant the Mahamantra even once in this Kali Yuga are assured of 'Moksha' (liberation)

I have uttered the name of God; I have repeated the name of Rama or Hari. How can I be a sinner?' One must have faith in the glory of God's name

The Master had the faith of a child. He immediately pointed out, 'Then why is there dirt on my body?' Krishnakishore explained, 'The inner impurities go away and not the external dirt.'

The glory of the Divine Names cannot be understood by logic, reasoning or argument

If you utter the Divine Name of the Lord, it will eliminate all your sins without leaving any residue.

Any person who Chants the Name of Krishna even only once, no matter, whether said devoutly or disdainfully, would cross the ocean of life.

Sri Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swamigal extols the greatness of Chanting the Divine Name of Lord Shiva by quoting the below mentioned Sloka in Srimad Bhagavatha

Japa even once uttered has its own good effect, whether the individual is aware or not.

So, if you want to know the power and greatness of the Name, you should constantly repeat it

Nama Article 27th September 2012

Question: Could you tell us a few words about the name of God and its power?

Swami Papa Ramdas

The power of the Name and the power of God are one and the same, because God and His name are one and the same, just as sun and its light. One cannot exist without the other. "The taste of the pudding lies in the eating", as the proverb goes. So, if you want to know the power and greatness of the Name, you should constantly repeat it and see what effect it produces on your mind, how it purifies you thoroughly and how it brings you in contact with the Divine within you. All these you get through experience. However much Ramdas may extol the Name before you, you will not be able to comprehend its greatness. If Ramdas goes on lecturing to you for days and days on the sweetness of sugar, which you have not tasted, you will never know the taste of it. But if you eat it, you will immediately know its taste.

Similarly, those who want to know the greatness, power and glory of the Name must constantly keep it on their tongue, feeling conscious at the same time that they are taking the name of the Divine Spirit within, whose qualities are absolute existence, consciousness and bliss.

Chanting lips make many hands work

There is no use of just speaking of taking medicine but one should actually take it

Rather than speak at length about the greatness of the divine name, prove it by chanting

By the mere touch of a Bhagavata, others can become Bhagavatas.

If you cannot remember that God is everywhere, Just chant His Name, that will do everything.

If you chant the Maha Mantra constantly, the whole world will be at your feet

Mahatma Gandhi won over them by the sheer power of Rama Nama and by virtue of truthfulness sans any weapon and got us independence

If Vivekananda succeeded in all his accomplishments in the world through mere fruit of Rama Nãma japa, is not one able to comprehend the glory of Nãma?

The Swamiji was struck with wonder at the power of the Mahamantra. He at once took hold of the Mahamantra. He wandered all over the country

Just as the whole world's welfare is taken care by the one Sun above, just so when someone sits in some corner and does proper japa or dhyana or tapas it brings about welfare to the world. He is like the Sun.

Spiritual transformation (by way of Chanting the Nama) is like treating at the root

The dassi came to have a darshan of Bodhendral and after prostrating to him she left this world through Kabala moksham in front of her guru like how a yogi leave this world

Therefore, wherever the chanting of Nãma is performed, wherever a japa is done, a wave is created. This is the reason that we say that it is peaceful, joyful in a place. What is so peaceful? The atmospheric wave here is very calm.

Nama Article 25th September 2012

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Kamban writes that as soon as Hanumãn entered Vibhishana's home, he realized that Vibhishana was a virtuous person. Kamban then explains, 'The atmosphere ('adhirvalaigal') in this home was very good.' Since Hanumãn was a Yogi, he could comprehend the thought waves in that home.

Therefore, wherever the chanting of Nãma is performed, wherever a japa is done, a wave is created. This is the reason that we say that it is peaceful, joyful in a place. What is so peaceful? The atmospheric wave here is very calm.

In a home where is there is always a quarrel, where people do not meet eye to eye on any matter, hate each other, are not united, the atmospheric waves are negative. When anyone visits the place, he feels restless and desires to get out of the place.

Wherever Nãma Sankirtanam is done that place is purified. The home where Nãma Sankirtanam is done will never be in want.

To collect people living around one's home and help them chant the Lord's Name is verily service to the Guru. Or to follow the special instruction given to him/her by the Guru is verily 'service' to the Guru.

The service that God has entrusted upon your shoulders is to lend them to me!

If it is even possible for you to make one other person chant the Mahamantra, that is the greatest service you can do to Him

A good family is a family which chants Nama regularly

That is verily their 'Kula Mantra'.

Chant the Mahamantra Nama kirtan :

Of all the disciplines for controlling the restless mind there is none so easy and efficacious as the taking of the Divine Name.

Nama Article 24th September 2012

Swami Papa Ramdas

By the repetition of the Divine Name your mind is not only purged of all its impure thoughts and desires but is also lifted to the loftiest state of consciousness in which you realise your union and oneness with God.

Of all the disciplines for controlling the restless mind there is none so easy and efficacious as the taking of the Divine Name. But there is a way in the repetition of it and that is, it must be uttered with full faith and love for it; then only you will feel that the Lord's Name is very, very sweet.

Please check these: Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

"It is all right even if you do not hold your senses under control. Keep doing Nãma Sankirtan. The 'indriyãs' (senses) will automatically come under control!"

I feel ashamed to stand before God and seek for his blessings the next time. What should I do?

If you sincerely pray to get the obstacle removed, your prayer shall be fulfilled

To protect one from five senses one need to keep a vigilant watchman or a ferocious dog and that is nothing but the divine names of the Lord.

The Mahamaya (greatest illusion), the mind, can be brought under control slowly and steadily by Namakirtan alone.

Drench your senses in the enchanting form of Krishna, His stories, His glory and His Divine Name. The mind is effortlessly controlled!

What is difficult for human beings? The constant control of the mind.

The name of God is more powerful than the senses. It will become all right in time if you practise regularly.

If we think of God and pray to Him for His guidance and His grace, we shall derive strength to battle against these temptations and conquer our weaknesses

Likewise, never once does a true disciple doubt, if his Guru has conquered his senses!

If the mind troubles?

Our ‘bhajanam’ should not be performed with some desire (‘kămyărtam’)

Nama Article 23rd September 2012

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Our 'bhajanam' should not be performed with some desire ('kămyărtam'). Nămdev was always saying 'Pănduranga! Pănduranga!' He had no other thought. He could not talk about anything else.

We write an examination and fail in it. We feel ashamed of the failure. We try our hand in some business and fail in it. We feel very ashamed. In the same way when we try our hand in reaching God and fail in it we should feel ashamed about it. We should either do bhakti deeply and attain God or be in the world enjoying worldly things. What is the use of remaining in-between ('rendungkettan') the two? -- Neither here nor there?

Please check these: Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

If you want God alone, why do you accept the existence of anything else ?

If you are in the quest of the Lord give up everything - all karmas - and work towards the end purpose of Life

So, if one wants God, one's whole heart must be given to Him. The one sole objective of the devotee is to pray to Him, to take His Name and to dedicate his whole life to His service.

If you want something from someone, you have to make him happy. Only then you will receive what you want. Similarly, if you want God's grace,……..

It is not enough if you have faith in God but you should have faith in yourself; the faith that you would see God

Three things which are rare indeed and are obtained only due to the grace of God

Since it has to be attained some day why not begin it today?

What is prayer?

Before clarity, there is bound to be confusion. Chanting the Maha Mantra incessantly with steadfast faith, patience and perseverance will help you achieve what you want.

Nama Article 22nd September 2012

I want to be totally free of sins and become joyful and cheerful, bring happiness to everyone in life. Knowing the questioning and doubting human mind, how can one ever get conviction in God, know Truth and become free?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

Unless you experience the truth yourself, your doubts will not vanish. Great saints like Lord Buddha, Swami Vivekananda, Ramana Maharshi, J. Krishnamurtiji were terribly attacked by various puzzles, and their sincere quest led to their realization.

Before clarity, there is bound to be confusion. You should not stop with confusion. You must proceed in a divine path suitable to you and really verify for yourself, if the results experienced by these saints are really true.

Chanting the Maha Mantra incessantly with steadfast faith, patience and perseverance will help you achieve what you want.

It is heartening to note that you will stick on to the Japa and pray to the Lord to fill our hearts with love and noble thoughts. Its indeed the greatest prayer. We are very happy for you. Lord Krishna will bless you bountifully and will ever be with you in your spiritual quest.

Chant the Mahamantra Nama kirtan :

In the same way, when the mind imagines, it is called ‘manas’. When it thinks, it is called ‘intellect’. It is the same person who chants the Mantra as well as gets those thoughts.

Nama Article 21st September 2012

Source: http://www.namadwaar.org/answers/questions.html

When I chant any Mantra, some thoughts run in the back of my mind simultaneously. The moment I realize this happening, the thoughts cease and Japa seems to resume. Now, who is chanting the Mantra and who gets the thoughts? Are both one and the same person?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

When the force of air is mild, we call it breeze. When it blows with great force, we call it a storm. In the same way, when the mind imagines, it is called 'manas'. When it thinks, it is called 'intellect'.

It is the same person who chants the Mantra as well as gets those thoughts. The phenomenon that you experience is because of the fact that the mind operates at different levels.

It is also the same reason why people perform acts like 'ashtavadanam' (performing eight non-connected activities at the same time) etc.

When we are idle, mind starts to play its game. If we do not want the mind to go astray, one should chant the Mahamantra kirtan incessantly. This is the easiest path.

Mind can be controlled by dealing with the situation from a practical standpoint with 'viveka' or discrimination.

If we put some ant-repellant around the sweets, the ants cannot get inside to the sweets. Similarly, lust, anger and fear would constantly pester our mind. We cannot avoid the attack of these on our mind by our intelligence.

In the field of battle the fight has begun in right earnest and passion, anger, pride and ambition are the foes to be fought.

Leaving the desires and anger, bless me to sing your divine names.

Just as soap cleanses the cloth of its impurities, so also the mantra is a spiritual soap cleansing the mind. Just as fire cleanses gold of its impurities, so also mantra cleanses the mind of its impurities.

Wash out the thoughts of Concupiscence, anger, pride, greed and attachment from your mind.

The one who has no expectations on wordly desires and who has accepts everything as the Will of the Lord Vasudeva is a supreme devotee

Nama Article 20th September 2012

Srimad Bhagavatam 11:2:50

The one who has no expectations on wordly desires and who accepts everything as the Will of the Lord Vasudeva is a supreme devotee (Uthama Bhagavatha).

Witnessing and accepting all the happenings in the world as His play pleases Him more than anything else.

The Mahamaya (greatest illusion), the mind, can be brought under control slowly and steadily by Namakirtan alone.

The one, whom all the riches of the three worlds cannot distract from the remembrance of the Lord's lotus feet even for half a second, is the foremost of all the vaishanavas.

One should constantly repeat the names of God irrespective of any activity that he might be involved in.

By constantly chanting the divine Mahamantra and surrendering to the feet of Bhagavan, one can attain moksha by his grace.

Everything in our life is predetermined. All we have to do is to turn and fix our mind on Him!

Words of wisdom by a great Gnani and a true bhaktha

You should not only accept from the bottom of your heart the situation that the Lord keeps you in but also be grateful to Him for that because it is verily the Lord's blessing!

The only will we have is the freeing will of choosing to chant whenever we find mind wandering

If one does not chant the divine Name of the Lord, the Lord will not interfere with his life. If he does chant the Name of God continuously, the Lord makes his life favorable to him.

Wish you all happy Vinayaka Chathurthi

In Vishnu Sahasranamam, Lord Siva asks Parvati to chant the Rama Nama all the time. A good teacher is the one who practices what he preaches. It is obvious that Siva, being the Supreme Guru, (Jagadguru) Himself chants the Rama Nama. When parents do something noble, would not the son follow the same? Muruga and Ganesha chant the Rama Nama always. That is verily their 'Kula Mantra'.
