The hands of a person must be used writing granthas or divine names, or clapping the hands in bhajans

Srimad Bhagavatham

शावौ करौ नो कुरुतः सपर्यां हरेर्लसत्काञ्चनकङ्कणौ वा ।। २-३-२१ ।।

The hands might be adorned with shining jewels like golden bracelets and bangles. But if it does not serve Lord Hari, then they are like the hands of a dead body. This might sound harsh. But Bhagavathas always states such things in this manner to instill great dispassion in us, so that we don't lose sight of the truth in our worldly activities. So the hands of a person must be used in serving Lord Hari like cleaning his temple, or cooking Prasad, or offering Puja, or stringing flower garlands, or decorating the temple with kolams or festoons, or writing granthas or divine names, or clapping the hands in bhajans or grinding sandal paste for Krishnapuja or doing abhishekam for Krishna and so on and so forth!

So we must not even waste a second without singing the divine Names or His glories with this tongue of ours given to us by God!

जिह्वासती दार्दुरिकेव सूत न चोपगायत्युरुगायगाथाः ।। २-३-२० ।।

What about our tongue (जिह्वा)? If it does not sing the glories of Bhagavan, the Lord who is sung widely, then such a tongue is like an unchaste woman (असती ) and it can be compared to the tongue of a frog (दार्दुरिकेव). Why? Because the tongue of a frog always keeps making some meaningless sounds and ironically, that very sound invites its death, the snake, which comes to know the whereabouts of the frog with these sounds. 

So also if we use our tongues to talk meaningless worldly things, that would only invite Yama and remind him that he has forgotten us! So we must not even waste a second without singing the divine Names or His glories with this tongue of ours given to us by God!

एवं विमृश्य गुणतो मनसस् त्र्य्-अवस्था

मन्-मायया मयि कृता इति निश्चितार्थाः

सञ्छिद्य हार्दम् अनुमान-सद्-उक्ति-तीक्ष्ण-

ज्ञानासिना भजत माखिल-संशयाधिम्

 

Pondering thus and arriving at the following conclusion about the nature of the Self that the three states of the mind (referred to heretofore and) traceable to the (three) Gunas (or modes of Prakrti) are superimposed on Me (appearing as the Jiva) by My deluding potency (veiling My true nature), cut at the root of egotism, the basis of all doubts (as to whether the soul is different from the body etc., or one with it, whether it is one or there is a plurality of souls and so on) with the sword of wisdom whetted by reasoning, the precepts of saints and the Sruti texts, and betake yourselves to Me seated in your (very) heart by Chanting the Divine Names.

Therefore, knowing your own self up to the stage of realization, O Uddhava, and equipped with (such) knowledge and realization and full of Devotion worship Me by Chanting My Divine Names (alone, rejecting everything else).

भयं द्वितीयाभिनिवेशतः स्याद् ईशाद् अपेतस्य विपर्ययोऽस्मृतिः

तन्-माययातो बुध आभजेत् तं भक्त्यैकयेशं गुरु-देवतात्मा

He who has turned away from the Lord loses the memory (of his real self), thanks to His Maya, and falls a prey to the erroneous belief that the body is one's own self. He is then seized with fear engendered by identification with the body (which is other than the self). 

Therefore, a discerning person should worship Him with exclusive devotion by Chanting His Divine Names, looking upon his preceptor as the Deity as well as his own self.

भवापवर्गो भ्रमतो यदा भवेज् जनस्य तर्ह्य् अचुत सत्-समागमः

सत्-सङ्गमो यर्हि तदैव सद्-गतौ परावरेशे त्वयि जायते मतिः

When the end of the cycle of birth and death in the case of a soul undergoing transmigration is in sight, then (alone) his meeting with some saint takes place, O Lord Who does not lets His devotees to slip away! (And) when there is fellowship with a saint, then alone is engendered devotion to You by Chanting Your Divine Names, the Refuge of saints and the Ruler of the high and the low.

Muchukunda prayed : Deluded by Your Maya and blind to the highest Reality (viz., Yourself), O Lord, this creature of man and women is immersed in the worldly happiness and does not worship You by Chanting Your Divine Names, but remains attached to the home, which is a (prolific) source of misery (alone), in search of happiness, of which (however) it is (ever) deprived.

भक्तिः परेशानुभवो विरक्तिर् अन्यत्र चैष त्रिक एक-कालः

प्रपद्यमानस्य यथाश्नतः स्युस् तुष्टिः पुष्टिः क्षुद्-अपायोऽनु-घासम्

As one who eats (food) feels satisfied, gets nourishment and relief from hunger with every morsel, (similarly) in him who has resigned himself to the Lord by Chanting the Divine Names, devotion, realization of the supreme Lord and aversion to other objects – all the three appear at once.

In the votary of God O king, who worships uninterruptedly by Chanting the Divine Names as aforesaid the feet of Sri Hari (the immortal Lord) Devotion, a distaste for the enjoyments of the world and direct knowledge of God appear (simultaneously); and through them he directly attains (the state of) supreme peace.

Having somehow (by grace of God) secured without (any) effort birth-which is (so) difficult to attain-in this land (of Bharatavarsa) as a human being sound of body and mind (and therefore fit for devotions), O sinless Lord, man does not take refuge in Your lotus- feet and Chant your Divine Names, his mind being set on the pleasures of sense (which are unreal), and remains sunk in household life even like a cow which is fond of grass has fallen into a Desolate well for that grass (and is unable to get out of it).

Neither is anyone beloved of Him, much less His dearest friend, nor again is anyone unwelcome, much less hateful or even worthy of being treated with indifference. Nevertheless He loves His devotees (alone, who worship Him by Chanting His Divine Names), in the same way as they do, just as a wish-yielding tree grants the desire of men (only) when approached (by them)

जुषमाणश् च तान् कामान् दुःखोदर्कांश् च गर्हयन् ।।

He who has reverence for My stories developed (in his heart) and has lost (every) charm for all activities (but not for their rewards) and, though recognizing the pleasures of sense to consist of sorrow (alone) is yet unable to relinquish them should therefore lovingly worship Me (by means of hearing and chanting My names and stories etc.), full of faith and firm in his conviction (that everything will be accomplished through Devotion alone) and enjoying those pleasures while condemning them as attended with misery.

May that Lord of unbounded mercy bring about my complete deliverance. By worshipping him by Chanting His Divine Names one attains what they seek for like religious merit, objects of sensuous enjoyment, riches and final beatitude, nay, Who grants them other unexpected boons too as well as undecaying Divine body.

स्वस्याप्य् अथापि भजताम् असि भाव-बन्धुः

Markandeya says, O Lord! How can I extol you? For, propelled by You (alone) function the vital air and following it the speech, mind, and Indriyas (the sense of perception and the organs of actions) not only for embodied beings but even for Brahma and Lord Siva.

Yet you behave as a friend of the soul of those who worship you by Chanting your Divine Names.

The power of the Lord who wields the discus in His hand is infinite; though the Maker of this world, He remains ever beyond it.

He alone can know His ways who inhales the fragrance of His Lotus-feet through constantly Chanting His Divine Names with devotion.

Oh! You are highly blessed, O Jewels among the twice born! in that, having installed in your mind Lord Narayana, who is adored of all, and has no other object of adoration, and who is the Inner Controller of all, constantly worship him by Chanting His names, full of ceaseless devotion.

Essence of Gita - मामेकं शरणं व्रज

The easiest way to surrender is to chant the Mahamantra. Continuously chant the Mahamantra and eventually, you will attain the state of surrender. – Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji
