Adishankar's Vivekachudamani

 

दुर्लभं त्रयमेवैतद्देवानुग्रहहेतुकम्। 
मनुष्यत्वं मुमुक्षुत्वं महापुरुषसंश्रयः।।

 

These are three things which are rare indeed and are obtained only due to the grace of God –

a)       human birth,

b)       the desire for salvation,

c)       and the company of a realized soul.

If you want something from someone, you have to make him happy. Only then you will receive what you want. Similarly, if you want God's grace, you should make Him happy, and the easiest way to do that is by chanting the Maha Mantra!
