Srimad Bhagavadgita 10:8

 

अहं सर्वस्य प्रभवो मत्तः सर्वं प्रवर्तते |

इति मत्वा भजन्ते मां बुधा भावसमन्विताः ||१०-८||

 

English Translation of Sansktirt commentry by Adi Shankaracharya

 

I, the supreme Brahman called Vasudeva; is the origin of all and everything. The whole world of changes (consisting of continuance, destruction, action and enjoyment of the fruits of action) moves on owing to Me alone.

 

Realizing thus, the wise ones, the knowers of the supreme Reality; filled with fervour-bhava, meaning ardent longing for the supreme Reality; worship me by Chanting my Divine names.

Waves originate in water, depend on water and dissolve in water. The only support for the waves is water. Even so the only support for the whole world is the Lord. Realising this, feeling the omnipresence of the Lord, the wise worship Him with devotion and affection in all places. The Supreme is the same in all countries and at all times. He is the material and the efficient cause.

சிவநாமத்தின் மஹிமையை அம்பாள் சொல்வதாக ஸ்ரீமத் பாகவதத்தில் வருகிறது.

தாக்ஷாயணி ப்ரபாவம் பற்றிச் சொல்கையில், தாக்ஷாயணி ப்ராணத்யாகம் செய்யும் சந்தவேசத்தில், 'த்வயக்ஷரம் நாம கிரா' என்று, அதாவது பஞ்சாக்ஷரமாக எல்லாம் இல்லாது, 'சிவ' என்ற இரு எழுத்துக்களை உச்சரித்தாலேயே சர்வ பாபங்களையும் போக்கிவிடும் என்கிறாள். இதையே திருமந்திரத்தில் "சிவ சிவ என்கிலர் தீவினையாளர் " என்று திருமூலரும் சொல்வது.

Let us say that on the compound wall of our house some dirty posters have been pasted. What should we do to stop this? We should paste a poster reading, 'do not paste any poster on this wall.' This would stop further pasting of posters. So a poster was requried which would stop many dirty posters being pasted.

 

By Chanting and listening to Divine names of the Lord various unwanted thoughts that arise and disturb our mind are erased out and new ones do not crop up.

If you have shaken off your sleep and regained sobriety this time, make the best use of your youth by worshipping the Lord and repeating His names.

To worship Lord will be difficult once the time is allowed to pass. You will never be able to get any water even if you try million times, unless you store it during the rains. For men, their youth is the rainy season. What do you expect to achieve in the old age, once you allow this happy time to pass by? So I tell you this the proper time to meditate upon the Lord. Nurture carefully the roots of love that have sprouted in youth. All your efforts will be crowned with success in time and then you will be able to withstand heat of the summer as well as to give relief to the wayfarers.

 

If on the other hand, the roots shrivel up due to heat, million rainy seasons will not be sufficient to do them any good. Therefore make proper use of this priceless time with the greatest of care and judgement. You wasted your youth million times before. If you have shaken off your sleep and regained sobriety this time, make the best use of your youth by worshipping the Lord and repeating His names. Brothers, you are now endowed with evanescent gift of youth, make the best use of it and gratify yourselves. Youth never returns once its lost. This is like the mid-day Sun, a single minute after mid-day and it will gradually go down from the zenith till it is lost.

अनन्येनैव योगेन मां ध्यायन्त उपासते ||

 

तेषामहं समुद्धर्ता मृत्युसंसारसागरात् |

भवामि नचिरात्पार्थ मय्यावेशितचेतसाम् ||

 

Lord Krishna says, "As for those who having dedicated all actions to Me, who am God, and having accepted Me as the supreme, meditate by thinking of Me constantly, with single-minded concentration."

 

 What comes to them?

 

Lord Krishna continues, "Hey Partha (Arjuna) , for them who are solely devoted to meditating on Me; who have their minds merged in Me,  without delay, I become their deliverer from that sea of transmigration which is fraught with death."

 

How to over come maya (illusion) and constantly meditate on the Lord ?
