Nama Article 12th March 2007

Excerpts from a discourse by Sri Sri Swamiji

In Kali yuga it is not possible for people to do any hard sadhana. It is only out of compassion that this 'Bhagavan Nãma Mantra has been blessed to all.

Once a Vaishnava devotee came visiting Bhagavãn Yogi Ram Surat Kumar.

He asked Bhagavãn, "Are you an Advaiti or a Visishtadwaiti?"

Bhagavãn questioned back, "Who was the founder of Advaita and who was the founder of Visishtadwaita?"

The devotee said, "Adi Sankara and Ramanuja"

Bhagavãn shot back, "Do you mean to say that there was no Advaita before Adi Sankara and no Visishitadwaita before Ramanuja?"(!)

The devotee blinked!

Bhagavãn continued, "Where does Advaita and Visishtadwaita differ?"

He could not answer.

Bhagavãn, "Do you know 'Vadagalai' and 'Thengalai' 'sampradãya (tradition)?"

The man remained silent, as he did not know the answer. It was the same to all the other questions regarding the founders of the above 'sampradãya' and several other questions shot at him by Yogi.

Yogi then said to him, "Advaita and Visishtadwaita are for my Masters like Ramana Maharishi and Papa Ramadas. For you and for this beggar Rama Nãm is enough. Get out!"

Likewise, it is enough, if we know that someone called God exists and the only way to reach him is Chanting His Name.

Sri Sri Krishna Premi Swamigal

It is enough that you know the destination and the right path to reach it. The other details about the place can be verified in person. Likewise, it is enough, if we know that someone called God exists and the only way to reach him is Chanting His Name. The rest can be known and experienced in person.

The absolute pure consciousness is God. He is within you and He is all-pervading; omnipresent. There are no two things in this world. He alone exists and no body else.

"My Father alone exists, nothing else; nobody else"

Thus gradually developing the conviction that God alone exists and the ego does not count

One has to believe that the Lord exists. But it should not stop there. One should have total faith in Him and invoke His divine grace by chanting the Maha Mantra.

Having compassion of the Lord as the foundation, the one which has no rules, the one which can eradicate the force of Kali, Namakirtanam is the only resort. I think again and again about this with in Myself

Yogi then said to him, "Advaita and Visishtadwaita are for my Masters like Ramana Maharishi and Papa Ramadas. For you and for this beggar Rama Năm is enough. Get out!"

For the intellectual, Guru’s words and His Holy feet is enough. For others there is a requirement of reading books like Bhagavad Gita

Bhagawan Yogiramsuratkumar

For the intellectual,  Guru's words and His Holy feet is enough. For others there is a  requirement of reading books like Bhagavad Gita

I want to know about your Bhakti Advaita Siddhanta ? We know only Mahamantra. I think it is enough for you too.

To remain in the Holy Feet of the Guru as a 'nobody' (zero); to remain like a doll in his hand. This is the only effort that can be taken by us.

Just chant the Mahamantra. That will indeed lead you to the true philosophy.

Likewise, it is enough, if we know that someone called God exists and the only way to reach him is Chanting His Name.

All these three types of karmas will be burnt away in the fire of those who perform Năma Sankeertan with deep devotion for Bhagavăn in their hearts will be burnt away just as the cotton thrown into a fire gets destroyed

Nama Article 20th December 2014

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji on ThiruppAvai

'văyinăl pădi' (sing) - perform Năma Sankeertan. 'manathinăl sindikka' - Sri Sankara says, 'Bhaja Govindam'. How does He explain the word 'Bhaja'? While the tongue sings the Name of the Lord and the mind thinks of Him (the heart feels Him), the hands move in 'anukarană' ('abhinaya'). If the mind is set in the song, say, while we sing 'Govardana Giridhari' the mind should picture the Lord holding the Govardana mountain on His little finger and our hands will automatically go up. This is called 'bhaja'. So, to perform bhajan means even while singing the Lord we should think of the Lord and the hands should enact the scene. 'Bhaja Govindam' - Sing Lord Govinda in this way.

What happens when we do this?

'Poya pizhaiyum pugutharuvăn ninranavum theeyinil thoosăgum! Cheppelo rembăvăi'

Poya Pizhai is 'prarabda' (fate), pugutharuvăn is 'ăkămya', ninranavum is 'sanchita'. Ăndăl speaks of the three kinds of karmas. The founders of the three philosophies of Advaita, Dwaita and Visishtadwaita, viz. Adi Sankara, Madhwăchărya and Sri Ramanuja, respectively, have said that 'prarabda' cannot be altered by anyone. If Bhagavăn cannot alter 'prarabda' it will mean that 'prarabda' is greater than Bhagavăn. It will go to mean that there is something that cannot be carried out even by Bhagavăn. So, here it does not mean that Bhagavăn cannot alter the 'prarabda' but it only means that the Lord will not alter, the 'prarabda'. He does not break the rules of the 'prarabda' set by Him. However, at times He does break the 'prarabda' out of sheer compassion. This is only to show that He possesses the power to break the rule that He Himself has created. Otherwise in the ordinary course the Lord does not break the 'prarabda'.

All these three types of karmas will be burnt away in the fire ( 'theeyinil thoosăgum'). The good and bad merits of those who perform Năma Sankeertan with deep devotion for Bhagavăn in their hearts will be burnt away just as the cotton thrown into a fire gets destroyed.

Opinion of Krishna on essence of Gita

Nama Article - 22nd October 2007

Sankara says that the Gita offered by Krishna speaks Advaita philosophy while Ramanuja says it is Visishtadwaita and Madhwãchãrya calls it Dwaita!

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

Why do you try to know the opinion of others regarding the words of the Gita of Krishna?

Know what Krishna means.

The Lord says, "Keep chanting my Divine Name (Nãmasankirtan) and I will take care of the rest."

Chant the Mahamantra Nama kirtan  :

Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
