If the word Vishnu means Omnipresent then everything in this world is God. In this aspect, Advaita philosophy is acceptable and easily understandable. Shall I follow this principle along with the chanting of Mahamantra? Or shall I chant Mahamantra alone?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

Just chant the Mahamantra. That will indeed lead you to the true philosophy.

What is real happiness? True happiness lies within you. By merely removing ignorance this can be realized. The easiest way towards this goal is by chanting the Mahamantra.

The true purpose of our existence is to realize God in ourselves. No other purpose is equal to or more significant than this

To think 'What is the purpose of my Creation' is the very purpose of Lord's Creation

The true purpose of existence can be understood only if one attains a Guru

What is spirituality and spiritual path? How can I continuously progress on this path?

Glory of Rama Nama and Krishna Nama

Nama Article 20th July 2012

Source: http://www.namadwaar.org/answers/questions.html

In the Padma Purana it its mentioned:

visnor ekaika namapi, sarva vedadhikam matam

tadrk nama sahasrena, rama nama samasmrtam

"Each Name of Lord Vishnu is greater and more potent than the entire Vedas combined together, and Lord Rama's Name alone is more superior that a thousand Names of Lord Vishnu

In the Brahmanda Purana it is stated:

sahasra-namnam punyanam, trir-avrttya tu yat phalam;

ekavrttya tu krishnasya, namaikam tat prayacchati.

"And the merits (punya) achieved by chanting the thousand holy names of Vishnu (Vishnu-sahasra-nama-stotram) three times or (by deduction) the Holy Name of Rama thrice can be attained by only one utterance of the Holy Name of Krishna."

And as a result I often hear people saying that saying Krishna one time is the same as same Ram 3 times.

My question is: Is it okay to make such conclusions based on the two verses? Does the translation need to be taken in a numeric sense?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

There is a mathematical calculation called "Katapayaadi Sankhya" in which each Sanskrit 'akshara' is assigned a specific number.

These verses refer are true as per the 'Katapayaadi Sankhya'.

Rama is indeed the highest teaching

Nama Article 19th July 2012

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

When the original Ramayana consisting of 100 crore verses was expounded, each of the three groups of beings: humans, devas and asuras claimed the work for themselves. Unable to settle their squabble, they approached Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva first split the 100 crore verses equally among each of the three groups of beings. (100 = 33 * 3 + 1). When this great task was completed, one verse was left over. The squabbling continued over the ownership of this last verse. The Ramayana is composed in the Anushtub meter, consisting of 32 letters. Lord Shiva now divided this verse equally. (32 = 10 * 3 + 2). In order to be fair to all parties, he told them that he would personally safeguard the remaining two letters. Being given more than 33 crore verses each, the asuras, devas and humans alike were satisfied with the proposal and nodded their assent. Then, one of them asked which aksharas Lord Shiva would be personally safegaurding. He replied: only the letters raa and ma. Only then did the beings realize, Rama is indeed the highest teaching

This is the essence of all Vedas. This is the greatest among all mantras. Nectarine Rama Nama is the heart of Vedas.

What is the essence of all the Shastras, the Brahma Sutra, the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, etc.

All acts performed are only so much useless labor if it fails to generate love towards the Lord.

Man feels that only the most difficult is the highest, the most difficult way is the best way. This is a very wrong notion

Whether your interest be in Yoga, Meditation or Vedanta, chanting Mahamantra for some time will purify your mind and enable you to proceed in your own path comfortably

When its recitation commences with the Divine Name Hari and concludes with the same, it is a clear and significant indication that the essence of all Vedas is about chanting the Divine Name of Hari.

Essence of Srimad Bhãgavatam

The essence of the endless Vedas is this : Seek the shelter of God and repeat His name with all thy heart.

What is spirituality and spiritual path? How can I continuously progress on this path?

Path of liberation is really simple. Chanting Divine Names incessantly leads us there in due course of time, as pointed out by great Mahatmas.

Having compassion of the Lord as the foundation, the one which has no rules, the one which can eradicate the force of Kali, Namakirtanam is the only resort.

Essence of the Vedas and all the holy scriptures is "Repeat the name of Narayana." Without the remembrance of Hari, all other practices, such as rituals and austerities, are only futile exertions.

Nama Article 18th July 2012

Haripath - Sant Gnyaneshwar

Meaning

The proclamation and essence of the Vedas, shastras, puranas and all the holy scriptures is "Repeat the name of Narayana."

Without the remembrance of Hari , all other practices, such as rituals and austerities, are only futile exertions.

Those who have dedicated themselves to remembrance of His name have found unending peace and contentment and they have become enveloped in its sweetness like a bee who, in its search for honey, becomes enveloped in the closed petals of a flower.

Jnanadev says: Hari's name is my mantra which is also a formidable weapon that keeps the god of death in distance from me and from my generations.

I was raised to believe in God and the scriptures. But, I have never seriously done any meditation or pujas. Of late, I have been reading some of Jiddu Krishnamurti's works. I desire to pursue the path of liberation. But, the 'concept of bhakti' versus 'the concept of truth' is very confusing to me. I am not sure which the right path is for me and how I should go from here. Please help!

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

Once Jiddu Krishnamurtiji was asked by a tradition loving person, why he is chastising tradition and scriptures so much. He immediately said, 'This place is only for those who have lost faith in the scriptures. If you still have faith in them, this is not the right place for you!'

The central theme of Jiddu Krishnamurtiji teaching is that one has observe and be a light unto one's self. So in short, one has to help one's self for finding the truth. He termed Truth as pathless. If you want to pursue a path, then Krishnaji's teachings are not your cup of tea. He has not prescribed any path. Any path supposes a tradition and discipline.

Bhakti is love for the truth. Truth is what that exists here, there everywhere, now and forever. Truth and love can't be different. Love leads to Truth, and when established in Truth, love blossoms.

Doubts cease completely only in that final experience of truth. So, trying to get rid of doubts by intellect is to only multiply them. It is like plucking leaves of a giant tree one by one, by the time a complete cycle gets over, already new leaves have sprouted!

You used to trust our scriptures, now you tend to trust Sri Jiddu Krishnamurti. That is the only difference!

Path of liberation is really simple. Chanting Divine Names incessantly leads us there in due course of time, as pointed out by great Mahatmas.
