What riches can you give to God?

 

When the Radhakanta's ornament was stolen, Sejo Babu (son-in-law of Rasmani) went to the Radhakanta Temple and said to the deity, 'Fie on you, Thakur (God)! You could not guard your own ornaments!'

 

I (Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa) said to Sejo Babu, 'What an intelligence you have! He who has Lakshmi herself for His handmaid, He whose feet she massages, how can He lack splendour? The jewellery is something very precious for you, but for the Lord it is just a few clods of earth. Fie on you! You should not talk so unintelligently. What riches can you give to God?'

Bhagavat Gita

समोऽहं सर्वभूतेषु न मे द्वेष्योऽस्ति न प्रियः ।

ये भजन्ति तु मां भक्त्या मयि ते तेषु चाप्यहम् ॥

 

English Translation - Swami Sivananda

 

Lord Krishna says

" I am the same in all beings, there is none hateful to Me or dear.

Those who worship by chanting the Divine Names with devotion, they are in Me and I am in them"

 

Translation of Sri Sankaracharya's Commentary

 

This clearly shows that God is never partial. Of numerous people oppressed by Cold, fire protects from cold and relieves the suffering of those alone who approach the fire. If anyone does not approach it at all, the fire is not to blame for it.

 

Similarly, God purifies the heart and relieves the suffering of all who engage themselves in the pursuit of His Bhajan (Chanting the Divine Name) and blesses them. Therefore no blame of partiality can attach to God.

Meaning

 

Saints company conducts the seeker's mind in the path that leads to God.

 

Let your tongue be ever chanting "Rama" "Krishna"; Let your hunger be ever for Him. Even Shiva, who is absorbed in His own Self, Loves the repetition of Name "Rama".

 

Those who single-mindedly chant His name will realize Him, and be freed from duality; they'll revel forever in the awareness of Unity.

 

Those lovers of god who drink the nectar of His name enjoy the same sweetness that yogis attain through their Sadhanas.

 

Love for the Name arose early in Prahlada; and Uddhava got from Lord Krishna.

 

Jnanadev says: The way of Hari's name is so easy; yet, see how rare it is! Few indeed are those who know the infinite power of His name.

Meaning

 

Those who don't chant the Name of the Lord accumulate a mountain of sin which surrounds them like a diamond-hard shell.

 

He, the meanest, is not devoted. Being a non-devotee, he is not able to chant His name due to the result of his previous deeds.

 

How can those who are ceaselessly gossiping ever attain the vision of God?

Jnanadev says: The cherished treasure which is always with me is remembering his Name only.

If evil thoughts come to mind it means that the mind is empty and Nature abhors a vacuum. The only way to check their attack is to recite Ramanama and to do Rama’s work.

If evil thoughts come to mind it means that the mind is empty and Nature abhors a vacuum. So when the mind is not reciting Ramanama or doing His work, then the Devil takes possession of it.

 

So when evil thoughts invade the mind, the only way to check their attack is to recite Ramanama and to do Rama's work.

 

It can never fail. Go on increasing the recitation of Ramanama till you succeed. There is no other remedy.
