THE LIFE-GIVING

RIVERS OF DIVINE RASA

Let us take the charitra of Sri Bhagavannama Bodhendra Saraswati Swami. Well after the samadhi of Sri Bodhendra Swami, bhagavatas were once performing bhajan at Sri Bodhendral Mutt (at Govindapuram). After the bhajan, food was also served to them. It is a traditional practice to offer betel leaves to bhagavatas after serving them with food. The person who sold betel leaves was a Muslim man who lived in Aduthurai (a few km away). He did not come on time that day. As they were waiting for him, a few minutes later, the man came running fearfully in great haste. He said, “A sanyasi from this place came to me and chided me in a majestic voice, ‘Bhagavatas have eaten there already and are waiting for the betel leaves.

Why have you not left yet?’ Saying this, he disappeared and I could not see him. Where is he?” The bhagavatas were stunned on hearing this and replied, “He has already taken jeeva samadhi. He is not in his physical body now.”

The bhagavatas then did Rama Nama upadesa to that highly fortunate betel-leaf seller. The man continued to stay in the Bodhendral Mutt and chant Rama Nama, and also came to be called as Kabirdas.
