If anything along the path should frighten you, Then loudly shout the name of the Lord; For He is Ruler of that road, And even Death must bow to Him.

Nama Article 28th February 2009

Song sung by Narendra (Swami Vivekananda) during his first darshan of His Guru Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa

Companionship with holy men will be for you

A welcome rest-house by the road;

There rest your weary limbs awhile, asking your way,

If ever you should be in doubt, of him who watches there.

If anything along the path should frighten you,

Then loudly shout the name of the Lord;

For He is Ruler of that road,

And even Death must bow to Him.

You can chant the ‘Rama’ mantra to any deity. In fact, Lord Siva Himself chants the ‘Rama’ mantra all the time.

During Sivaratri, Abhisheka is done in all Siva temples. Why did Sri Sri Swamiji choose to perform Abhisheka to Lord Panduranga at Vittalapuram?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

It is believed that Lord Panduranga has the 'amsa' (divine aspects) of Lord Siva. Adi Sankara, in his 'Panduranga Ashtakam' ends every verse with the word 'lingam' signifying the same ('Parabrahma lingam Bhaje Pandurangam!')

In general, both Hanuman and Panduranga are considered to have 'Shiva amsa' in them.

----------

I performed 'Girivalam' at Tiruvannamalai this Sivaratri. I chanted Rama Nama all the while, though the fellow-devotees asked me to chant the Shiva mantra. Am I right in doing what I did?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

You can chant the 'Rama' mantra to any deity. In fact, Lord Siva Himself chants the 'Rama' mantra all the time. Hence you are absolutely right in chanting the Rama mantra.

Truth is that one who chants the Divine Names of the Lord does not do so in vain

Nama Article 20th February 2009

Why should we chant the Lord's name repeatedly if it is true that the utterance of His Name just once shall burn up the sins?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

Some chant the Lord's Name for extricating their sins. Some do it for the sheer joy experienced in the mere chanting.

There is absolutely no doubt that chanting of the Lord's Name shall remove sins.

However high the quality of the seeds be, its growth depends on the quality of the soil it has been sown in. Likewise, the greatness of the Divine Name is unique indeed but the result depends on the maturity of the one who chants it.

Yet, the truth is that one who chants Bhagavan Naama (the Name of the Lord) does not do so in vain.

Sin does not touch the person who constantly chants the name of Hari. The person shall also have no dearth for prosperity. Is there an easier way than this?

Nama Article 19th February 2009

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

In spite of constantly driving the ants away from sweets they keep coming towards it. But if we put some ant-repellant around the sweets, the ants cannot get inside to the sweets.

Similarly, lust, anger and fear would constantly pester our mind. We cannot avoid the attack of these on our mind by our intelligence. But if we keep chanting the names of the Lord (Bhagavan Naama) constantly, the Bhagavan Naama would prevent these detrimental tendencies from afflicting our mind. Bhagavan Naama is our sole refuge all the time, everywhere.

Sin does not touch the person who constantly chants the name of Hari. The person shall also have no dearth for prosperity. Is there an easier way than this?

Reciting Lord's Name does not require japa (religious recitations), tapa (austerities) and Sadhana (strenuous religious practices) or the like, nor does it involve any expense

Nama Article 11th February 2009

Sant Kabir

O Brother, sing the praises of Lord's Name Rama, Govind, Hari. The effort does not require japa (religious recitations), tapa (austerities) and Sadhana (strenuous religious practices) or the like, nor does it involve any expense. But because of desire for progeny, wealth and pleasures and forgetting God, often lead one astray.

Kabir says: He on whose lips the Name of God is not there that mouth is a litter bin.

भजो रे भैया राम गोविंद हरी ।

जप तप साधन कछु नहिं लागत, खरचत नहिं गठरी ॥
