கண்ணம்மா - எனது குலதெய்வம் (ராகம் - புன்னாகவராளி

பல்லவி)

 

நின்னைச் சரணடைந்தேன்! - கண்ணம்மா!

நின்னைச் சரணடைந்தேன்!

 

பொன்னை உயர்வைப் புகழை விரும்பிடும்

என்னைக் கவலைகள் தின்னத் தகாதென்று ... (நின்னை)

 

மிடிமையும் அச்சமும் மேவியென் நெஞ்சில்

குடிமை புகுந்தன, கொன்றவைபோக் கென்று . ... (நின்னை)

 

தன்செய லெண்ணித் தவிப்பது தீர்ந்திங்கு

நின்செயல் செய்து நிறைவு பெறும்வளம் ... (நின்னை)

 

துன்ப மினியில்லை, சோர்வில்லை, தோற்பில்லை,

அன்பு நெறியில் அறங்கள் வளர்த்திட ... .(நின்னை)

 

நல்லது தீயது நாமறியோம்! அன்னை!

நல்லது நாட்டுக! தீமையை ஓட்டுக! ... (நின்னை)

I have surrendered Unto you! Kannamma

I have surrendered Unto you!

 

I desire wealth, rise in status and Honor! Kannamma!

Hence I pray that Sorrows should not eat me in and

I have surrendered Unto you!

 

Poverty and fear has entered as companions in my mind

To destroy them and that they leave me

I have surrendered Unto you!

 

To put a full stop of all my selfish thinking only about me and land in evils

I should be blessed to do your job and be in complete bliss

I have surrendered Unto you!

 

Henceforth there is no distress, languish and defeat

In the path of love let all my good virtues grow, as

I have surrendered Unto you!

As a great Tamil poet Sri Bharathiyar ranked with Ilanko, Thiruvalluvar and Kamban. His writings gave new life to the Tamil language - and to Tamil national consciousness. He involved himself actively in the Indian freedom struggle. His 125 ^th Birthday was celebrated all over the world on 11^th December 2007.

 

Mahakavi Bharathiyar was a great devotee of Lord Krishna and has enjoyed singing various songs by considering Krishna as his friend, Krishna as his mother, Krishna as his father, Krishna as his master, Krishna as his King, Krishna as his disciple, Krishna as his Guru, Krishna as his child and Krishna as his lover.

 

In a collection of songs where Mahakavi Bharathiyar has considered Krishna as his Lord prays as below:

 

Hey Krishna!   Relieve us all from the misery, disorders and slavery and grant us all the happiness!

 

I will follow the path ordered by you and hence sing your names and dance ecstatically with love my Lord!

 

I will follow the path ordered by you!

 

 

I will propagate the glories of your Divine Name in all slums by going around and spreading them!

 

I will beat the drums by thundering your Divine Name and create tremors in all directions!

 

Oh My Lord Krishna! I will thunder your name!
