(अधुना सर्वस्य गीताशास्त्रस्य सारभूतः अर्थः निःश्रेयसार्थः अनुष्ठेयत्वेन समुच्चित्य उच्यते)

मत्कर्मकृन्मत्परमो मद्भक्तः सङ्गवर्जितः।

निर्वैरः सर्वभूतेषु यः स मामेति पाण्डव।

He who does all actions for Me, who looks upon Me as the Supreme, who is devoted to Me, who is free from attachment, who bears enmity towards no creature, he comes to Me, O Arjuna.

Pandava, O son of Pandu; yah, he who;

mat-karma-krt, works for Me: work for Me is mat-karma; one who does it is mat-karma-krt-.

Mat-paramah, who accepts Me as the supreme Goal:

A servant does work for his master, but does not accept the master as his own supreme Goal to be attained after death; his one, however, who does work for Me, accepts Me alone as the supreme Goal.

Thus he is matparamah-one to whom I am the supreme Goal-. So also he who is madbhaktah, devoted to me: He adores Me alone in all ways, with his whole being and full enthusiasm. Thus he is madbhaktah-.

Sanga-varjitah, who is devoid of attachment for wealth, sons, friends, wife and relatives, Sanga means fondness, love; devoid of them-.

Nirvairah, who is free from enimity; sarva-bhutesu, towards all beings-berefit of the idea of enmity even towards those engaged in doing unmost harm to him-.

Sah, he who is such a devotee of Mine; eti, attains; mam, Me. I alone am his supreme Goal; he does not attain any other goal.

This is the advice for you, given by Me as desired by you.

Tu, but, O Arjuna; bhaktya, by devotion-. Of what kind?

To this the Lord says: Ananyaya, by (that devotion which is ) single-minded. That is called single-minded devotion which does not turn to anything else other than the Lord, and owing to which nothing else but Vasudeva is perceived by all the organs.

With that devotion, aham sakyah, am I able;

evamvidhah, in this form-in the aspect of the Cosmic form;

jnatum, to to known-from the scriptures; not merely to be known from the scriptures,

but also drastum, to be seen , to be realized directly;

tattvena, in reality;

and also pravestum, to be entered into-for attaining Liberation;

parantapa, O destroyer of foes.

When one believes in the grace of the Lord alone and totally surrenders to Him, he is liberated in the very same birth.

While speaking on Bhakti marga alone Lord Says.........

Likewise, it would suffice if we do not block the Grace that is being sent out.

God's grace always flows in abundance. It is upto you to be ready to receive it.

What is the secret of success?

It is up to you to choose the most apt means of transport given your current load of luggage and various other factors

The spirit of Devotion cultivated by the recitation of His Name is the best form of virtue and this alone has been declared to be the paramount duty that should be practiced in this world.

That love, can sprout only by his grace. His grace descends when we chant the Mahamantra.

The intention of continued chanting of the Divine names is to take one to the state of total selfless, unconditional LOVE

Everything in our life is predetermined. All we have to do is to turn and fix our mind on Him!

Having compassion of the Lord as the foundation, the one which has no rules, the one which can eradicate the force of Kali, Namakirtanam is the only resort. I think again and again about this with in Myself

12.13 He who hates no creature, who is friendly and compassionate to all, who is free from attachment and egoism, balanced in pleasure and pain, and forgiving.

12.14 Ever content, steady in meditation, self-controlled, possessed of firm conviction, with the mind and intellect dedicated to Me, he, My devtoee, is dear to Me.

12.15 He by whom the world is not agitated and who cannot be agitated by the world, and who is freed from joy, anger, fear and anxiety -- he is dear to Me.

12.16 He who is free from wants, pure, expert, unconcerned, and free from pain, renouncing all undertakings or commencements -- he who is (thus) devoted to Me, is dear to Me.

12.17 He who neither rejoices, nor hates, nor grieves, nor desires, renouncing good and evil, and who is full of devotion, is dear to Me. 

12.18 He who is the same to foe and friend, and also in honour and dishonour, who is the same in cold and heat and in pleasure and pain, who is free from attachment.

12.19 He to whom censure and praise are equal, who is silent, content with anything, homeless, of a steady mind, and full of devotion -- that man is dear to Me.

12.20 They verily who follow this immortal Dharma (law or doctrine) as described above, endowed with faith, regarding Me as their supreme goal, they, the devotees, are exceedingly dear to Me.

सर्वारम्भपरित्यागी यो मद्भक्तः स मे प्रियः ॥१२- १६॥

यो न हृष्यति न द्वेष्टि न शोचति न काङ्क्षति ।

शुभाशुभपरित्यागी भक्तिमान्यः स मे प्रियः ॥१२- १७॥

समः शत्रौ च मित्रे च तथा मानापमानयोः ।

शीतोष्णसुखदुःखेषु समः सङ्गविवर्जितः ॥१२- १८॥

तुल्यनिन्दास्तुतिर्मौनी सन्तुष्टो येन केनचित् ।

अनिकेतः स्थिरमतिर्भक्तिमान्मे प्रियो नरः ॥१२- १९॥

ये तु धर्म्यामृतमिदं यथोक्तं पर्युपासते ।

श्रद्दधाना मत्परमा भक्तास्तेऽतीव मे प्रियाः ॥१२- २०॥

'Deivam' (god) appears only to one who is a 'dharmătma' (the Righteous), has 'druda viswăsa' (unstinting faith) and is 'satyasanta' (Truthful) and not to one who does not possess these qualities.

 

But it is also proclaimed that if we Chant the Divine name we can attain the Lord. We see that many who Chant the Name of the Lord do not possess even the basic qualities like humanity. Then how will they attain the Lord.

 

Both the above statements looks contradictory.

 

We would be clear if we understand what Lord Krishna says in Gita.

 

क्षिप्रं भवति धर्मात्मा शश्वच्छान्तिं निगच्छति |

कौन्तेय प्रतिजानीहि न मे भक्तः प्रणश्यति ||

(Srimad Bhagavadgita 9:31)

 

But, if you do Nãmasankirtan, it not only becomes atonement for all the sins committed but is also 'shipram bhavati dharmãtma' == It also completely erases the feeling ('buddhi') to commit a sin again. Very soon it makes you a Dharmãtma (righteous person). That is the 'prabhãva' (glory) of Nãmakirtan. Do it (Nãmakirtan) rightly or wrongly, it does bestow its 'phala' (fruit), certainly. When Vãlmiki was a hunter he did not even know to utter Rama and did japa of it as 'mara', 'mara'! Yet, he became such a great Maharshi and composed the 'Ãdi kãvya' (Ramayana).

 

Lord assures that His devotee is never destroyed. Here the word devotee does not refer to Prahlada, Dhruva, Ambarisha etc as no one can have any doubt that these great Bhaktas would never be destroyed. Lord here assures that one who is an ordinary bhaktha and even one who does Bhakthi with out total faith will also not be destroyed. Hence all who Chant the Divine Name would attain the Lord with out any doubt. The Divine Name of the Lord ('Bhagavan Nãma') has the power to redeem one and all. Was not Ajamila, the worst sinner, redeemed for the mere uttering of the Divine Name?

Bodendra swami, in His 'Bhagavan Nama rasodayam' says angrily, 'do you think it the Name of some Tom, Dick and Harry? It is verily the Name of the Lord of the Universe ('Jagadeeshwara's Name)!

 

Essence of Gita - मामेकं शरणं व्रज - The easiest way to surrender is to chant the Mahamantra. Continuously chant the Mahamantra and eventually, you will attain the state of surrender.

 

Does not the Lord surely arrange for securing what they lack and protecting what they have even in the case of other devotees?

 

But, while speaking on Bhakti mãrga, Bhagavãn tells Arjuna, 'na chirãt' - it will not take long. You can attain to Me now, in this very janma.

 

One who utters My Name becomes holy very soon

 

Even if you perform the smallest dharma I will protect you from the worst fear

What is the power of pracitising prayers, how it can transform a person and why a devotee is dear to Lord Krishna ?

 

अद्वेष्टा सर्वभूतानां मैत्रः करुण एव च ।

निर्ममो निरहङकारः समदुःखसुखः क्षमी ॥

सन्तुष्टः सततं योगी यतात्मा दृढनिश्चयः ।

मय्यर्पितमनोबुद्धिर्यो मद्भक्तः स मे प्रियः ॥

 

He who hates no creature, who is friendly and compassionate to all, who is free from attachment and egoism, balanced in pleasure and pain, and forgiving.

 

Ever content, steady in meditation, self-controlled, possessed of firm conviction, with the mind and intellect dedicated to Me, he, My devotee, is dear to Me.

 

The devotee who is established in God bears ill-will to none. He looks on all with love and great compassion. He regards all beings as himself. He does not hate even a single being, not even the creature which gives him intense pain. He who entertains mercy towards suffering people and tries to relieve their sufferings is a man of Karuna. He puts himself in the position of the sufferer and feels the pain himself. Mercy is a divine attribute. God is all-merciful. If you wish to hold communion with the Lord, and if you desire to attain Godhead, you must also become all-merciful.

 

The perfect devotee offers full security of life (Abhayadana) to all beings. He is a Paramahamsa Sannyasi. The devotee only can really understand the mysterious ways of the Lord. He beholds the Lord everywhere. He sees the Lord in all creatures. That is the reason why he has equal vision. He is like the sun or the river. The sun sheds its light equally on a palace or a cottage. Anyone can drink the water of a river. A river quenches the thirst of cows as well as tigers and lions. The idea of 'mine-ness' and 'I-ness' never arises in the devotee's mind. He has no sense of 'mine' and 'thine'. He is indifferent to pleasure and pain. He is not attached to pleasant objects. He does not hate the objects that give him pain. He is as forgiving as the earth. He is not affected a bit when anybody insults, abuses or beats him.

Srimad Bhagavadgita 8:5

 

अन्तकाले च मामेव स्मरन्मुक्त्वा कलेवरम् ।

य: प्रयाति स मद्भावं याति नास्त्यत्र संशय: ।।

 

Lord Krishna tells Arjuna that "He who leaves the body and departs (from this world) with his mind fixed on Me during the last moments (of his life) attains to Me without doubt"

 

But he alone who is filled with God consiouness at all times can call up the memory of God during his last moments. It is only such thoughts as we have indulged in for the whole of our life that we ordinarily recall during our last moments. That is why Krishna advices Arjuna as follows:

 

Srimad Bhagavadgita 8:7

 

"O Arjuna, therefore at all times remember Me only and fight.

With mind and intellect fixed (or absorbed) in Me, thou shalt doubtessly come to Me alone."

 

तस्मात्सर्वेषु कालेषु मामनुस्मर युध्य च ।

मय्यर्पितमनोबुद्धिर्मामेवैष्यस्यसंशयम् ॥
