Srimad Bhagavatam (2:7:15):

This shloka in Srimad Bhagavatham explains that one gets many auspicious benefits immediately even on hearing the Divine Names of the Lord.

If you are not able to perform Nama Sankirtan, at least listen to Nama Sankirtan. Hear the Nama regularly or go and sit in a place where Nama is being chanted.

To awaken us to the state of Truth, we need sounds which are above this worldly plane and are established in Reality.

Even if one is not able to Chant the Divine Name of Rama, one should hear others Chant of Divine Name Rama.

However, he concludes, 'only due to merits earned in crores of births does Bhagavan Nãma come on our tongue.'

Of all the various people who are physically challenged, I get extremely moved when I come across people who are deaf and dumb. This is because they cannot hear or utter the Divine Names.

Those people who take pleasure in continuously hearing, chanting and remembering Your activities, certainly very soon will see Your lotus feet, who put the recurrence of rebirths to an end.

Saintly persons (sadhus) hear, sing, and recite a literature, of such a writing describes the glory of the names of God.

If you think of one God , sing and hear his glories only , mingle with HIS devotees and do service only to him, your mind would attain one-pointedness

Why did he say that one should dance about on the streets (singing the glory of the Lord)?

Immediately that dumb boy gained divine knowledge and started dancing, singing the Divine Names, `Rama' and `Krishna'

The path of Bhakti is, undoubtedly, the easiest of all mărgas to attain Bhagavăn; not only for this Yuga (Age) but also for all Yugăs

Nama Article 19th September 2011

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

The path of Bhakti is, undoubtedly, the easiest of all mărgas to attain Bhagavăn; not only for this Yuga (Age) but also for all Yugăs.

Bhagavăn holds the hand of the bhakta and leads him, just as a mother holds the hand of her little child and helps in walking. Bhagavăn, Himself, assures the bhakta, "If you take a single step towards ME with 'shraddha' (faith) and bhakti, I will take ten steps towards you and lead you!" How then can one fear to walk on this path? We can, therefore, move fearlessly ('nirbhayanăi') on this path.

What happens if we miss a step and fall down? HE who holds our hand will lift us up and help us walk on the path again!

Thondaradipodi Ăzhwăr (Vipra Nărăyana) was a great devotee of the Lord. In his Păsuram 'Thirumălai' he repeatedly speaks of the glory of Năma (the Name of the Lord). In this, he sings, "Kăvalil pulanai vaithu kalidanai kadakkap păindu'. He had one-pointed devotion to Lord Ranganatha and his 'Thirumălai' depicts the deep anguish of a bhakta. Once a 'dăsi' (dancing girl) wearing the garb of 'Hari dăsi' (servant of Lord Hari) enticed him into her net of desire. One who had known only the Lord was now at the home of a 'dăsi'! All advices from his well-wishers fell on deaf ears. But what does the Lord do? HE works in the 'buddhi' of the bhakta and corrects him. Even if the bhakta falls in 'dur sangha' (bad company) due to fate, Bhagavăn does not forsake him but helps him out of it.

The 'dăsi' threw him out once she had sucked out all his wealth from him. What did Bhagavăn do on seeing his loving devotee cry at her doorstep? Calling himself the servant of Vipra Nărăyana, the Lord went to the 'dăsii's' home in the form a young boy and offered her a golden plate so that she would accept his devotee back!

On learning this, Thondaradipodi Ăzhwăr rushed to His beloved Bhagavăn and sang "Bhăviyen unnai allăl! Păviye! Păviyene!" (never will I think of anyone else! a sinner that I am! a sinner that I am!) and never again did he move away from Bhagavăn.

Show just a little devotion and Bhagavăn goes to any length to help you!"

"It is all right even if you do not hold your senses under control. Keep doing Năma Sankirtan. The 'indriyăs' (senses) will automatically come under control!"

Be simple, egoless and innocent like a child and have entire trust in Him, and He is yours. Have His Name on your lips.

Chant and pray with faith to Krishna and this is the easiest way for Divine grace

Guru is like a potter and a disciple is like a pot. A potter hits the pot from outside and provides every support from within.

To feel that you are His child be your supreme privilege,

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

While others have explained - 'Kãvalil pulanai vaithu kalithannai kadakapãindu', as 'perform Nãma Sankirtan holding the senses under control',

Periavãcchãnpillai Swamy has explained it as - 'Kãval il pulanai vaithu', i.e, "It is all right even if you do not hold your senses under control. Keep doing Nãma Sankirtan. The 'indriyãs' (senses) will automatically come under control!" The Swamy's perception of each pãsuram and his elucidation ('bãshya') for them are wonderful and charming.

I feel ashamed to stand before God and seek for his blessings the next time. What should I do?

If you sincerely pray to get the obstacle removed, your prayer shall be fulfilled

To protect one from five senses one need to keep a vigilant watchman or a ferocious dog and that is nothing but the divine names of the Lord.

The Mahamaya (greatest illusion), the mind, can be brought under control slowly and steadily by Namakirtan alone.

Drench your senses in the enchanting form of Krishna, His stories, His glory and His Divine Name. The mind is effortlessly controlled!

What is difficult for human beings? The constant control of the mind.

The name of God is more powerful than the senses. It will become all right in time if you practise regularly.

If we think of God and pray to Him for His guidance and His grace, we shall derive strength to battle against these temptations and conquer our weaknesses

Likewise, never once does a true disciple doubt, if his Guru has conquered his senses!

If the mind troubles?

Therefore, move in the path that your Sadguru had walked with the protection of His Paaduka. “R A M A!” Just chant ‘Rama Nama’!

Nama Article 16th September 2011

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

A medicine may be highly potent but should it not suit the constitution of your body? It may be poisonous to your body. Instead of curing you, it may bring about your death. The doctor, therefore, prescribes the medicine that would suit the constitution of your body; and, it alleviates your suffering.

Likewise, there is no doubt that Karma, Yoga and Jnana are great paths. But they do not suit your temperament. In this Age of Kali these paths are difficult to tread. Therefore, move in the path that your Sadguru had walked with the protection of His Paaduka. "R A M A!" Just chant 'Rama Nama'!

It is up to you to choose the most apt means of transport given your current load of luggage and various other factors.

The one who calls all the people in this Kali Yuga and gives the 'upadesa', "Utter the Name of the Lord. You can attain God!" Only such a one is a Sadguru.

Bhagawan Nama Bodendra Saraswati Swamigal puts forth his findings in the following words, "Since it is so easy and simple, none takes to it!

Would it not amount to grave injustice if one shows a difficult path to the world?

There are many ways. But the simplest and the easiest way is by chanting the "Hare Rama.." Mahamantra.

They are for those who don't believe in simple prayers.

Smallest dharma is verily Chanting the Divine Name (Namakirtan) and ignorance ['ajnaana'] the worst fear

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

When we look at the conditions prevailing today, the state of our mind, etc. we find that our mind has lost its strength. Today, most of us are without 'mano balam' (strength of mind). Under such circumstances, the only way that all can easily follow is 'Bhagavan Nãma kirtan' (chanting the Name of the Lord).

Therefore, who is a Sadguru?

The one who calls all the people in this Kali Yuga and gives the 'upadesa', "Utter the Name of the Lord. You can attain God!"

Only such a one is a Sadguru.

God is for all. Each and everyone have the right to attain God. 'Bhagavan Nãma kirtan' which is the easiest way of attaining that God and performance of 'Bhagavan Nãma' japa is universal way; all can say Bhagavan Nãma; there is no bar for this; no one can stop it; all are children of God. Therefore, under the conditions prevailing today we can attain God following this great way. Only the one who advocates this 'mãrga' (of 'Nãma sankirtan') to us is verily the highest Guru. Only He can show God to us. He is verily the Avatãra Purusha.
