Nama Article 8th March 2015
Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji on 17th November, 2002
Man is beseeched with sorrows. Sorrows rain down on man. Life is verily a mixture of sorrow and happiness. When we visit the beach we find the people there very happy. It is a colouful sight. We find them playing around with family and friends. When we happen to visit a hospital the atmosphere is entirely different. It is a gloomy sight. It is filled with sorrow, what with various kinds of diseases having struck man. When we walk out of the hospital we find people living on the platform in utter poverty. When we listen to our friends we hear many kinds of sorrows of life. We ourselves face several kinds of sorrows. This need not be known through the Upanishads or the epics. We are living only in sorrows and problems. Sorrows rain down on us. How to solve each and every problem and cross over each sorrow?
When we walk in the rain we hold an umbrella over our head. A good umbrella shields us from the rain and we return home safely. Similarly, sorrows are the heavy rains that pour down on us. While walking in it hold the umbrella of the Lord's Name over you if you desire to remain unaffected by it. Chant,
'Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare!
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare!'
Chant this 10 times in the morning and 10 time in the evening. There will be a drastic change in you/your life. This is the umbrella of life. It will change the effect of sorrows to a great degree. The effect of problem or sorrow will even go unnoticed. Then what to say if you could chant it always?
Chant the Mahamantra Nama kirtan :
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
