We must strive to make the mind dwell upon God by thinking of Him and His attributes, and by offering ourselves entirely to Him in thought, word and deed.

Meaning

Of what potency the planets are? The real potency is that of the grace (anugraha) of Lord srI rAma (rAmAnugraha).

 

O what potency the nine planets are to those who meditate on the effulgent form of the Lord?

 

the real potency is the that of the grace of Lord srI rAma.

 

Of what potency the planets are to this tyAgarAja as also to those eminent ones who chant the names of Lord hari who quells the afflictions caused by the planets, the five great sins and the obstinate (six-fold) enemies - desire etc the real potency is the that of the grace of Lord srI rAma.

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

 

Bhagavãn has the following two with Him - 'Satya' (Truth) and 'Krupa' (Compassion). Only with 'Satya' can the world be run. 'Krupa' is for 'uddharana' (to help 'jivas' attain the Lord). Keeping 'Satya' to Himself, Bhagavãn has given 'krupa' to the Sadhus! The Lord tells the Sadhus that it would be impossible for Him to run the world if He went around doing 'loka uddharana'. So, He tells the Sadhus, "Take 'krupa' with you and I would give the ticket of Moksha to ones sent to Me by you."

 

When a Sãdhu demands of Bhagavãn to bestow Moksha on a person he (the Sadhu) does not tell the Lord, "He is good. Give him Moksha."

 

Why? Does not Bhagavãn know if a person is virtuous or not?

 

The Mahãns tell Bhagavãn, "Do not take note of his 'guna' (virtue) or 'dosha' (vice/fault). Take note of only the fact that I have sent him."

 

At once the Lord gives the ticket of Moksha to that person.

 

The Sadhu (dares to) tells the Lord, "Take him unto Yourself! You need not analyse on the virtue or any other background of the jiva being sent to you. Take note of only one fact - that he has taken refuge in a Mahatma, had attended a Satsang, listened to your stories, chanted your Divine Name."

 

Yoga or tapas might betray you but never the 'krupa' (grace) of the Guru. Only that 'krupa' would stand by you.

Mahashivaratri Greetings to all !!

In the village of Tiruvisanallur in South India lived Sridharayyãvãl, a Mahatma. He followed Bhãgavata Dharma and was a great Siva Bhakta. He performed incessant japa of Siva Nãma (Name of Lord Siva). A native of Mysore he later he moved to Tiruvisanallur and lived there. He was an adept in all the Shastrãs. Sri Sadasiva Brahmendra, Sri Bhagavan Nãma Bodendra, Sridharayyavãl were all contemporaries. Sridharayãvãl was deeply compassionate.

 

Once, a householder came searching for Sridharayãvãl to learn about the expiation ceremony to be performed for a sin that he had committed. But, Ayyãvãl (Sridharayãvãl) sent him away to find somebody else for this. The householder asked him the reason for sending him away thus. Sridharayãvãl explained, "Everything in the world appears to be 'Sivaswaroopa' (very form of Siva). Only if I deem you to be a sinner can I offer any expiation rites for it!" and sent him away.

Thyãgarãja Swami of Thiruvaiyãru was a great Rama Bhakta and has composed several kirtans on Lord Rama. In one of his kirtans, he sings,

 

"Graha balam emi Rama! Nee anugraha balame balam!" - He says " Rama! What can these planets do to me when I have your blessings?" (what power do these planets possess, Rama? It is only your 'anugraha' (Blessings) that are truly powerful)

 

Likewise in 'Kollaru Pathigam', the Nãyanmãrs have sung, "Avai nalla nalla adiyãrgalukku miga nallave!" - the 'Navagrahas' do not harm Siva bhaktas.

 

Sri Arunagirinatha, a great Muruga bhakta sings, "Nãll en seiyyum? Vinai dhãn en seiyyum? Ennai nãdi vandha koll en seiyyum?" - What can any (inauspicious) day or fate do to me?

 

Similarly, Abhirami Bhattar has sung, " Konãdha Kollum" . He prays to Abhirami Devi to safeguard her devotees from the effects of the planets.

 

How can the 'Navagrahas' affect us if we are devoted to God? If we have bhakti and lead our lives in dharmic way, the 'Navagrahas' cannot harm us in any way.
