As gold sheds its dross and regains its purity only when heated with fire, so does the soul shake off the seeds of Karma through the discipline of Devotion, by Chanting the Divine Names, and forthwith attains oneness with Me.

Guru is like a potter and a disciple is like a pot. A potter hits the pot from outside and provides every support from within.

 

Guru the washer man, disciple is the cloth; the name of God liken to the soap

 

"This too will pass"....You are just a watcher. Everything passes by. We are witness of all this. We are the perceiver. Life come and go. Happiness come and go. Sorrow come and go.

When one is afflicted with sorrow, if he persists in prayers and not question the Lord as to why He is putting him into grief, when the difficult times pass, the Lord is pleased and rewards him with a special gift of His grace.

 

You should not only accept from the bottom of your heart the situation that the Lord keeps you in but also be grateful to Him for that because it is verily the Lord's blessing!

 

When there is true love, even adversities appear to be blessings

 

It is not ours to question why, but to submit to the Divine will, and pass through all experiences that fall to our lot, with a free and cheerful heart.

 

Everything in our life is predetermined. All we have to do is to turn and fix our mind on Him!

तत्तेऽनुकम्पां सु-समीक्षमाणो

भुञ्जान एवात्म-कृतं विपाकम्

हृद्-वाग्-वपुर्भिर् विदधन् नमस् ते

जीवेत यो मुक्ति-पदे स दाय-भाक्

 

Brahma sings "Lord, one who spends his life praying and looking forward to Your Grace, quietly experiencing the joys and sorrows which are visited on him as a result of past actions (Prarabdha), and prostrating to you with heart, speech and body, becomes ultimately entitled to liberation (Mukti)''.

 

So, this is actually a three-in-one Sadhana

(I) incessant prayer for the Lord's Grace;

(2) quietly experiencing Prarabdha-caused joys and sorrows; and

(3) prostrating to the Lord with heart, speech and body.

 

One should always weep and pray for the Lord's Grace. Why not take the succor of the Lord Himself for attaining Him? One should not rebel against the sorrows and miseries of life, which are only a result of one's own earlier actions. These are meant to purify our mind. Full acceptance of the Lord's will and bearing all calamities cheerfully is itself a Sadhana. Remembering the Lord continuously; surrendering the mind, speech and body to him; performing only selfless acts beneficial to mankind; contemplating on the Lord continuously; and either resorting to silence or surrendering one's speech to the Lord, or, if need be, using speech only to chant the names and glories of the Lord, are sure means for realising the spiritual goal.

Commenting upon Mirabai's song which was sung at the prayer, Gandhiji said that in that song the devotee asks the soul to drink deep of the nectar of God's name. Physical food and drink result in satiety, and, if over-indulged, in illness.

 

But the ambrosia of God's name knows no such limit. The deeper one drinks of it, the more the thirst for it grows, but it must sink deep into the heart. When that happens, all delusion and attachment, lust and envy, fall off from us. Only one must persevere and have patience. Success is the inevitable result of such effort.

Hereafter, the Divine Name Rama is my only companion, nothing else.

Drink the nectar of the Divine Name Rama and always sit among righteous company....

Though he has performed such regnant (mighty) tasks, he hasn't diverged himself from uttering the Rama Nama even for a split of a second.

 

One should constantly repeat the names of God irrespective of any activity that he might be involved in.

 

Remembering the Hare Rama Maha mantra always is Punya (Virtue), Forgetting Hare Rama Maha Mantra is sin.

 

If you become that anxious on forgetting to chant the Divine Name even for a second, then you are blessed.

All I know is Ram Nam. For him there is no need for realisation, visions, experiences, or anything else. Ram Nam is everything.

 

When one chants Rama Nama, then where is the question of rebirth?

 

Repeated chanting of the Name of Răma enhances prosperity! -- sweetens the tongue, too! it purifies all - from the common man to the scholar!

 

Rama Nama is the very essence ('saram') of all Epics, Shastras and the Vedas

 

Is it enough if I do not try to assimilate Rama's qualities but just surrender to Him?

 

Only a pious devotee can acquire Prema Bhakthi through simple devotional acts like Chanting of the Divine Name of Shri Rama

तुलसिदास प्रभु राम दयाधन ।

और देव सब दामके ॥

 

The bhajan you heard just now was sung before also. I want to give you something of the background of this bhajan. It first echoed in my ears when I went on a fast while in jail. But while fasting one's memory becomes weak. None of my co-workers remembered the bhajan fully either. And so I sent a telegram and the bhajan was sent to me telegraphically in the Roman script. The bhajan delighted me so much that I forgot my fast. My grandson Kanu was with me at the time. At my request he sang it for me. There is nothing special about this bhajan by Tulsidas. He only says that he lives by two syllables (Namely, Ra and ma). Everything, he says, is accomplished only with the help of Rama. All other gods are amenable to offerings. For, when people go to worship the deities they offer a couple of pice before offering their prayers. The mother of a sick child offers a little money before praying for the recovery of her child. Another woman offers money to Lord Mahadeva pleading to be spared the nightmares she goes through. Some other woman who has too many daughters prays for a son. But all this is futile. Tulsidas says that God needs no flattery.

It will be alright even if none knows about the prayers, Namakirtan, recitation of holy books, worship that we perform in a seclude place. By this the cosmos would be purified and would bring prosperity to us as well us to the entire world.
