How to control the noisy mind and be peaceful by Sri Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swamigal [Maha Periyava] of Kaanchi Kaamakoti Peetam (today is Maha Periyava's Jayanthi)
When a group of persons are chattering with each other and are requested to remain silent, whether it is possible for them to remain so? They could not. May be after a minute or two, one or two persons start speaking with the other person in a hushed tone and over a period of time, say, by around 10 minutes, everyone start conversing with each other in loud tones and place becomes noisy.
Same would be the result of attempting to control the thoughts, which are arising in our mind, in one stroke. Hence, instead of requesting "Silence Please" again and again – (with His usual divinely smile) that is instead of shouting "Silence Silence" – if someone starts chanting nama, "Rama Rama", "Siva Siva" and by making it rhythmic with ragas and chanted as a Bhajan and everyone starts repeating it, all the sounds get merged in the Nama Itself.
For say half an hour, one hour or even through out the night when they change the rhythm and ragas and various Divine names are sung all are able to participate with out other talks. This is not silence. But we can say this as "Next best". If we are immersed in Divine Name like this it will lead to silence. Can an ordinary talk lead one so? Of all the emotions the love is reflected out in various beautiful ways in Bhakthi. This love for Lord will suppress the other thoughts / emotions and the dual love will get strengthened in one particular Bhava and culminates in advaitic experience, which is not possible by attempting to control the thoughts / emotions of the mind directly.

பலபேர் சேர்ந்து சளசளவென்று பேசிக்கொண்டிருக்கும் போது எல்லோரையும் சைலன்டாக இருக்கச் சொன்னால் அவர்களால் இருக்க முடிகிறதா? முடிவதில்லை. ஒரு நிமிஷம், இரண்டு நிமிஷத்துக்கப்பறம் ஒருத்தர், இரண்டு பேர் ரஹஸ்யம் பேசிக்கொள்ள ஆரம்பித்து, அப்பறம் எல்லோருமே அப்படி பண்ணி, ஒரு பத்து நிமிஷம் போனால், ரஹஸ்யம் என்பதும் நல்ல சத்தமாகவே ஆகிவிடுகிறது. மனஸின் எல்லா உணர்ச்சிகளையும் ஒரே வீச்சில் அடக்கப் பார்ப்பதும் இப்படிதான் முடியும். அதுவே, "சைலன்ஸ் ப்ளீஸ்" என்று திரும்ப திரும்பச் சத்தம் போட்டுக்கொண்டிருக்காமல் - (சிரித்தவாறு) "சைலன்ஸ் சைலன்ஸ்" என்றே சத்தம் போட்டுக்கொண்டிருக்காமல் - "ராமா ராமா" , "சிவா சிவா" என்று ஏதோ ஒரு நாமவை யாராவது ஒருத்தர் சொல்ல ஆரம்பித்தால், அதிலேயும் ராகம் தாளம் எல்லாம் சேர்த்து ரஸம் அதிகமாகும்படி பஜனையாக ஆரம்பித்தால் எல்லோரும் அதையே திரும்பச் சொல்லி அத்தனை சத்தமும் இந்த நாம சப்தத்திலேயே அடங்கிப் போய்விடுகிறது.
அறை மணி, ஒரு மணி கூட, ராத்திரியெல்லாம் கூடப், பல தினுஸாகப் பலுக்கிப் பலுக்கி, ராக தாளங்களோடு பஜனை செய்தால் எல்லோரும் மற்ற பேச்சு பேசாமல் அதில் கலந்து கொள்ள முடிகிறது. இது மௌனம் இல்லை தான். ஆனால் அதற்கு "நெக்ஸ்ட் பெஸ்ட்" (அதற்கடுத்தபடியான உத்தம நிலை) என்று சொல்லலாம். இப்படி நாமாவிலே தோய்ந்து சொக்கிப் போனால் தானே மௌனத்தில் கொண்டு விட்டு விடும்.
வெறும் பேச்சு அப்படி பண்ணுமா ? அப்படித்தான், அநேக உணர்ச்சிகளில் அன்பு என்பது பக்தியின் பல ரஸ பேதங்களோடு வெளிப்படுகிறது. பல விதங்களில் வெளிப்படும் போது, அதில் மற்ற உணர்ச்சிகள் அமுங்கி, அப்பறம் இந்த த்வைத அன்பும் அந்த பல பாவங்களில் ஏதோ ஒன்றிலேயே நின்று, பிறகு அத்வைத அமைதியிலே சேர்க்க முடியுமே தவிர, அப்படியே நேரே மனஸின் எல்லா உணர்ச்சியையும் அடைத்து விடுவதென்றால் முடியாது.
