Whatever you are not to get in this world, you will never get, however much you want it. Unmindful of this, go on taking the Lord's Name. Taking His Name or woshipping Him is not included in the ordained list of Karma for man; this is the loosening screw and the only way to get rid of the ordained lot.

tIvreNa bhaktiyogena yajet puruShaM param ||

 

Meaning

 

A wise man, whether he has no desire at all or is actuated by all sorts of desires or seeks liberation should worship the Supreme Lord with intense devotion.

I sincerely chant the Mahamantra daily for the past 6 months. Kindly tell me which are the Dasakams in Narayaneeyam to be recited which will remove the lustful thoughts, arrogance and worries?

We see that, prior to exams, some students have a number of books open in front of them and read a paragraph from one book and switch to another in quick succession. Eventually, then draw a blank when it comes to results because they have not studied any particular subject in enough depth.

 

This is true in spirituality too. We undertake a variety of different spiritual practices, chant a series of Mantras, perform a lengthy list of rites and rituals. And we do all of them for namesake – with little faith and sincerity.

 

In my opinion, it is the intensity and sincerity with which you perform the spiritual practice that is more significant, than what practice you undertake.

 

Mahamantra Kirtan has been prescribed as a simple and straightforward means of achieving everything. So why not take to that alone and do it in an intense manner with complete faith, instead of confusing yourself with a multitude of practices?

In Srimad Bhagavatham Videha Maharaja Nimi says,

 

दुर्लभो मानुषो देहो देहिनां क्षणभङ्गुरः ।

तत्रापि दुर्लभं मन्ये वैकुण्ठप्रियदर्शनम् ॥

 

(Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 11 Chapter 2 Verse 29)

 

Transliteration

 

durlabho manusho deho dehinam kshana-bhangurah

tatrapi durlabham manye vaikuntha-priya-darsanam

 

Meaning

 

The human body is a rare boon to embodied souls and that too is very transient (momentary, short-lived, temporary). In the human life too the rarest is to get the darshan of someone who is a Jeevan Muktha (Realized Soul) and who is a devotee of Lord Krishna. One should be immensely blessed to have the opportunity to serve a Mahatma in some way and it is indeed the rarest of the rarest.

 

Sri Abhinava Vidhyateertha Swami has advised that one need not demand this and that of their Guru. His 'kataksha' (sight) would suffice. The mere thought in Him, 'let this man turn good,' would do: and, that would bring about all round welfare."

 

Sri Abhinava Vidhyateertha Swami has said, "Our Guru is omnipotent; highly compassionate. He is one who bestows all that we lack; protects what we possess. He is omnipresent, filling everything within and without. Therefore, while standing in His divine presence let only the thought, 'Thou art verily the Atma within me' arise in us."

 

Bhagawan Yogiramsuratkumar says

 

Chanting the Name is prayer;

There is no need to pray separately

Swamiji, please explain why karma is carried from one birth to another? Why if someone does a wrong thing he is not been punished immediately? For any suffering all say it is due to past karma. Is it correct?

 

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

 

If God punishes immediately, you would say why can't he give him time and chance to correct what he has done!

 

It is due to infinite patience and compassion of the Lord that he gives us chance after chance to attain his feet.

 

So if you turn to Him and chant Maha mantra now, 'Nama' (The Divine Name) does all the purification instead of 'purification by punishment'.

There are many who, whether from mental laziness or from having fallen into a bad habit, believe that God is and will help us unasked.

 

Why, then, is it necessary to recite His name?

 

It is true that if God is, He is irrespective of our belief.

 

But realization of God is infinitely more than mere belief. That can come only by constant practice. This is true of all science. How much more true of the science of all sciences!
