It is most certain that fire burns wood to ashes..........Mahamantra is capable of destroying one’s Karma whatever they may be

Nama Article 24th November 2008

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

It is most certain that fire burns wood to ashes.  But if the log of wood is huge, it calls for more fire in the beginning, and that very fire expands and grows itself to burn the log completely.

Likewise, Mahamantra is capable of destroying one's Karma whatever they may be.

To start with, one has to chant more and more without faltering.  That will verily take care of the rest.

Rama is not merely the name of a character in our Itihasas. The entire cosmos reverberates to the tune of Rama Nama only. In fact, the all-pervading Rama Nama existed even before the Universe was formed.

Nama Article 20th November 2008

It is rather confusing when you say that Lord Shiva was chanting the Divine Name of Rama. It has been stated in all the scriptures that Lord Shiva existed long before the birth of Lord Rama. Please explain.

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

Rama is not merely the name of a character in our Itihasas. It is a Mantra, just like the 'Pranava' Mantra (Om). The great Sage Vashishta chanted this mantra for a very long time.

Hence he named Dasharata's first child with the name of his favourite mantra, knowing well that he is verily Lord Vishnu's incarnation.

The entire cosmos reverberates to the tune of Rama Nama only. In fact, the all-pervading Rama Nama existed even before the Universe was formed. So it is incorrect to believe that the Rama Nama came into existence only via Ramayana.

Little Prahlad by the Grace of His Guru Sage Narada, had an inexplicable love in Chanting the name of Lord Narayana. Prahlad’s unstinted faith was the reason for The Lord to appear in a pillar.

Nama Article 17th November 2008

Excerpts from a discourse by our Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji

Sri Suka narrates the various incarnations of the Lord and His 'upadesa' in each of His incarnations out of sheer Compassion to the 'jiva'; and, the lives of the Lord's devotees in Srimad Bhagavatham.

More touching are the lives of devotees of the Lord – Little Dhruva, blessed by His Guru Sage Narada, drawing the Lord with his intense tapas. Little Prahlad's steadfast devotion to the Lord notwithstanding innumerable brutal punishments inflicted on him by his Asura father Hiranyakashipu

Little Prahlad by the Grace of His Guru Sage Narada, had an inexplicable love in Chanting the name of Lord Narayana.

Prahlad was subjected to a number of ordeals by his Asura father Hiranyakashipu.

He was thrown into a lime kiln; was given food mixed with poison; was sentenced that he should be trampled to death by an elephant; was then dragged over to the top of a steep mountain and thrown down; was thrown in a fire, the child was tied to a big rock and thrown in to the deep sea. He came unharmed by God's grace from all these.

Angered by defeats, Hiranyakashippu challenges Prahlad (pointing to a pillar), "Does Lord exists in this pillar?" Prahlad in full faith says, "Yes, of course, I see the Lord in this!" and immediately The Lord is to be found in the pillar!

Prahlad did not do any puja, 'prãna pratishta' (installation of the Presence), Lakshãrchanai (lakh archanai) to acquire the presence of Lord Nrisimha Swami there. Prahlad's unstinted faith was the reason for The Lord to appear there.

Coming out of the pillar, Lord Nrisimha Swami calls Prahlad, "Come! My child! I will take you to Vaikuntam (Lord's abode)."

Prahlad says, "I am not selfish. I will not feel elated, 'Oh! Lord is calling me,' and follow you. Crores of people are slogging in 'samsara'. What is the way out ('gati') for all of them? I may come to your place along with all of them. I am not one to sit on your lap just because you have called me, and make merry. I will come only along with all (the others)."

Is it not true that Mahans are of such nature?

When I focus my mind on his golden feet and fold my hands in prayer, the God’s name, Namashivaya, will certainly protect me even if I am tied to a big rock and thrown in the sea.

Nama Article 15th November 2008

Saint Appar (one of the foremost Nayanmars) was a convert to Jainism and came back to Saivism. He was consequently persecuted by the then Pallava King, at the instance of some Jains. He was subjected to a number of ordeals like; He was thrown into a lime kiln for 7 days; was given food mixed with poison; was sentenced that he should be trampled to death by an elephant. He came unharmed by God's grace from all these.

Finally, they decided to kill Saint Appar by tying him to a big rock and throwing him in deep sea. When thirunAvukkarasar sank to the bottom of the sea, he prayed to Lord Siva and sang the following padhigam; the rock rose again to the top of the sea and floated back like a boat to shore.

Meaning

He is the word. He is the support. He is the essence of the vedas. He is the light. He is the heavenly one. When I focus my mind on his golden feet and fold my hands in prayer, the God's name, Namashivaya, will certainly protect me even if I am tied to a big rock and thrown in the sea.

If you are not able to perform Nama Sankirtan, at least listen to Nama Sankirtan. Hear the Nama regularly or go and sit in a place where Nama is being chanted.

Nama Article 14th November 2008

Though I believe, Nama Sankirtan is one of the ways to travel smooth in the divine path, I am unable to practice the same. Is there any other easy way to practice?

Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

If you are not able to perform Nama Sankirtan, at least listen to Nama Sankirtan.

Hear the Nama regularly or go and sit in a place where Nama is being chanted. That will also give you spiritual advancement.
